And part of the reason why the guitars sound better is MIKU! That guitar isn't just a necklace anymore, no no, she's playing that thing and it sound fucking great. Just having her play during that little bridge from the riff to the verse during the intro already makes the song so much better.

It's fun to see all the parts where Miku is actually playing along competently where she was just holding the guitar in the original mv. She has come a long way in her guitar journey. With a teacher like Kanami I'm not surprised.

All the ladies have been working so hard at improving. This release is wonderful if for nothing else than to just show off how much they've improved since this song's initial release. Especially from the vocals side of things. Saiki and Miku are both so much improved.

I have to say, although I don't understand much Japanese, I love Saiki's speaking voice. It's slow and so sultry, with what seems like a husky quality. I love Kanami's too, very cute and Akane speaks like her drumming, very fast.

Exactly. As if it wasn't groovy enough, she made it even more groovy close to the end, the third slap sequence to be exact, and then she slightly delayed the hammer-ons

A couple of inadvertent things happen when Miku stops playing to sing (I say inadvertent because it originally happened - as seen in the 2014 Thrill vid -- when she was not capable of doing both at the same time): 1) It leaves space for her and Saiki's vocals, and 2), it brings a dynamic to the music that wouldn't be there if she played across her singing parts. Of course now, as she's gotten better, she plays many times while singing. But this unintentional yet great intuitive rhythm guitar technique of when to stop and come back in adds a dynamic that is now part of Band-Maid's signature live sound. Thanks Champ, for covering this important, awesome Band of Maids!

All points accepted and agreed with. But. This is seven plus years on and quite frankly the first MV was I believe a make or break chance that didn't have the complete support of their original record company. They are now so much more mature and so much more confident in their performing. I give them props for continuing to get better with experience.

Besides Warning...the lives you have left are Cross and Choooose Me. Cross is way underrayed. Key changes and classic Kanami shredding through the chorus. IMO the Choose Me MV is better. The live is from same show as Screaming so harder to hear Kanami. Easier to hear MV. Plus MV looks great. Part of it is in black and white. Saiki looks amazing. Choose Me is the most popular song by ou haven't reacted to. Their most listened to song on Spotify. But don't overlook Cross.

This is definitely better. Saiki’s growls, the extended solos and just the vibe they’re giving off is so much more refined and mature here. You can literally feel how relaxed they’re playing this. I honestly never liked Thrill, among the few BM tracks that I often skip but this right here is a mainstay in my playlists. Hope they release their newer versions too on Spotify.

not only Miku's vocals, but you know ... the guitar Miku is *actually* playing instead of just faking it hard :) Also It's nice that "Hey" is missing somehow. But yeah ... it's a walk in the park for them. Nothing to challenge any of the girls and it kind of shows.

I definitely got the impression that they could play it in their sleep and were a little bit bored by the fact that there's nothing challenging in it for them... and that's what I read into Akane's eye roll... Misa added just a little bit to the base solo and Akane was just like, "Yeah, still not a challenge. You can do more."

It is really nice to hear the modern Band Maid doing an old friend live. I would love to hear what Kanami and Miku would do with a re-imagining of this song. The little something is MISA’s solo. It’s not longer but she changes it a bit probably cuz the old one puts her to sleep lol. Also thanks for talking about that end of kanami solo. I don’t have musician ears but I’m pretty sure there’s no missing notes on the recording and it always stuck out to me on this live performance. Speaking of Mikus' lead part in this version, I don't speak a lick of Japanese, but I am willing to bet that in the original MV she didn't sing "A pigeon traces and arc in the shrunken sky" ... LOL. Your thoughts about Miku's vocals during this made me wonder if you'd done a reaction to a live performance where Miku is doing the lead vocals? I've had a quick look and can't see that you have, so I would encourage you to add that to your future reaction list! :) There was a live video of Rock in Me at Zepp Tokyo that had been uploaded from one of their live DVDs by a fan, but it doesn't seem to be on KZbin at present (probably copyright claimed). However there is a very good fancam video of the song from Hamburg in 2019 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGaXd52FbNJobJo). Although not an official video, it's filmed very close to the band so, for this video, it's fascinating to see the performance and mannerisms of Miku and the other 3 members on stage at the time. You should definitely watch it even if you don't react to it!

Like you, I think this would have been a great song to change up a bit with extended solos, maybe a call-response bass/guitar solo or even let Miku throw is a short solo. It is nice to see that Miku is actually playing rhythm guitar since in the original video it was just adornment. Miku was certainly the least talented musician when this band was formed yet it was her vision and persistence as a spokesperson that gave us one of the best bands in the rock genre. I grew up listening to the rock gods so I am comparing them to the Who, Hendrix, the Stones, Cream, Zeppelin etc. To be honest Miku can come across as a bit of an air-head in interviews (and I would not have her change because she is adorable) but in one interview, I believe it was Kanami who said Miku thinks like a middle age man as a compliment to her focus. Once upon a time a little pigeon in Japan had a dream and who would have ever thought that a group of Japanese women dressed in maid outfits that can outplay most musicians would have been the end result. When I was listening to the rock gods as a teenager I would have laughed at the thought.

I do love this song. Though musically it is far simpler than their other stuff, that’s why it works. Really clean, great riff, great creativity with that bridge. The first time I saw Thrill Live a month ago when it released, I noticed how Miku (my stan) seemed bored & out of it when she softly said the "break new gate" at the start. Compare the 2014 MV version of that quote. Idk, it was just odd. She also did not sing her iconic "Hey" in places where they should be. Also miss Kanami's fret slide screech at the end. Yeah Miku had a hard time to be able to sing "Sayonakidori"... Kanami pushing her voice to the limits (as she seems to do even with Saiki... just listen to "Can't Live Without You")... to the point where Miku thought she couldn't hit those notes, but then she did... So she must have had some really "heavy work-out" and probably why she gained more "muscle" now... I tell you, the think I'm waiting for, sooner or later, is some surprising leads out of Miku's fingers. As always, my thoughts on Band-Maid leads me always to "how could this band happen?" ... and my conclusion is that Band-Maid is one of those bands that each individual's personality is a key element for the sticking together and moving forward and growing better and better... no one is "too-much-of-a-rock-star" here, they are so good because they are together...
