I once got to meet Buck Compton and I was so star struck that I asked for his autograph and he gave it to me. I keep it in my Band of Brothers DVD case and read it when ever I watch any of the discs.

I love watching videos like these, directly from WWII veterans' mouths. I never got to know my grandfather but he fought in D-Day then Battle of the Bulge... and survived. He died, unfortunately, a month after I was born so I feel like I get to know what he experienced a little more, with every bit of information I can hear about. I know he didn't talk to my dad much at all about what he went through, through.

Wow.. THAT is what integrity looks like in a human being. So humble and articulate. No one could have said it better as Buck did in describing what they, the microcosm they were, as he put it, and what the movie (and book) and all of the attention that came with it for their company (a mere part of the larger war), more so represents: The deeper meaning behind their story, as he described it, is showing how a nation of people can come together "who have a certain amount of freedom, independence and ingenuity." Well said Mr. Compton. God Bless you. RIP.

A true American hero. Humble to the end. God bless you Captain Compton. RIP. All the men who fought in ww2 were true hero’s. America is all about freedom. We have proven this time and time again. From the revolution to the war on terror we fight for those who can’t. My next door neighbor was a pacific war soldier. I am an unusual one. My war was never really understood. I fought in the war on drugs in Central America. My dad was a veteran in between ww2 and Korea. My son is a veteran of the war on terror. I am not a hero but I served with a lot of hero’s.

What men of this character went through so Americans can be free is beyond comprehension. The sad thing is what today's politicians are intentionally doing to this country to make it something other than what these men died for.

Other than their what they did during the war the thing I admired most about guys like Compton and Winter's is their humility. These guys deflect the credit that they deserve and are quick to praise other vets.

@kerojis the point he's trying to make is that all the soldiers that made it home got to live the life after the war, had a family, got a job, and got to tell their stories. but the ones who never made it back didnt get a wife, family, job, and they didnt get to tell our generation wat they went through. the realy touching thing is that the ones who made it home to see there families again lived a life without the guy he once shared a fox hole with and fought next to.

The Men Of Easy Company, 506 Div. 101st Airborne May Not Refer To Themselves As Hero's But Simply Regular Folks Doing What They Believed Was The Right Thing, Answering The Call In Their Country's Hour Of Need And Simply Doing Their Job. I Couldn't Agree More... They Don't Need To Say It, For Their Actions Speak Louder Than Any Voice, Any Word Could Ever Begin To Express.

It is difficult to make comparisons. I was a Marine in Viet Nam and a Soldier in Iraq. Which is worse, jungle or desert? Normandy or Okinawa? Khe Sahn or Fallujah? To borrow from Charles Dickens, "they were the best of times, they were the worst of times."
