Glad you enjoyed it! On reflection I think Ep1 of the series is my favourite as it’s so beautifully filmed and the range scene with the Thompson SMG’s and Bazooka firing in to the Jeep is so well done.

What a beautiful place this small village is. I really love these location walkdowns. I did this recently for the GOT locations in Northern Ireland. Your dedication to examining the details of these locations and periods is fascinating and most welcome to me, a retired architect with an avid interest in WWII history. The US military by necessity, was projected into a centuries old landscape, with centuries old social history. How the US presence made accommodation with those facts (or perhaps regrettably, not) is a subject of many layers, and still of interest today. Cheers, and my best.

Great video! I know Hambleden very well (I was there yesterday!) and it is a truly beautiful place. Thanks also for confirming the location of the stable scenes. I had always suspected it was Colstrope Farm but everybody I asked about it, just stared at me blankly! On which subject, the owner is currently restoring the grade II listed stable blocks and outbuildings as they were in a poor state of repair. So they should remain recognisable as a BoB location for many years to come. Hambleden village is frequently used as a film location and the porta cabin and vehicles in the field at 20:22 were left over from a major film production which was in the process of demobilising when you visited.

Its a wonderful village isnt it! Good to know about the portacabins etc, I wasn't sure if they were looking to do some construction work there but will be interesting to see what else has been filmed there. Another great one! Thank you. There are a few scenes that I’ve always wondered about when I watch the show. The scene when the guys were playing basketball in Aldbourne and Randleman throws the basketball off the back of the jeep. It was just such a funny scene. It really makes you realize that these were just kids. I’ve always wondered if that was an ad Lib. And I always thought that Alton More and Malarkey were genuinely surprised to see that truck come around the corner. They seemed genuinely surprised, and it appeared so real to me. And I always took the elderly gentleman who Winters “captured” to be a veteran of WW1. I think that was the reason for the respect and the tip of the cap from Winters. Maybe I’m reading too much into those scenes and it was just good acting.😂
@WW2Wayfinder

Completely agree! The scene with the elderly gent is my absolute favourite. From start to finish I think it captures that early 1944 atmosphere perfectly and how troops were on exercise all over the UK and the locals would inevitably stumble across them! Thanks for watching!

The two camera crew in your photo are, operator Chris Plevin and 1st. AC Alex Howe... They are still working hard to this day and we all have great memories of working on the show. So glad that the series is still held up as one of the greats. The main base for the show was the old De Havilland factory in Hatfield, same place as used in Saving Private Ryan. Sadly mostly all gone for industrial buildings and housing. Most of the exterior set builds were on the old airfield site and the main set was reconfigured from a Normandy French town through to eventually a German town as the show progressed. Lots of locations around Hertfordshire, Hatfield and old Welwyn. Some of the final episode was shot around Interlaken, Switzerland.

I got to see one of the original stable blocks at the BOB museum in Taccoa, GA and also the old Camp Toccoa grounds. It's definitely worth the drive if you're any where around Clemson, SC. The story behind the museum acquiring the old structure is heart warming. When they were scheduled to be torn down the museum or related party stepped forward and the Georgia Air National Guard provided the transportation from the UK to the States and they were reassembled inside the museum, the old Toccoa Rail Road station.

Wonderful video as usual. One thing to add I think Hambledon is in Hampshire so not the Chilterns which I think is north of London. I should know as born in Petersfield. So probably the "Hampshire Downs.

Just visited the village today. They are filming again in the village, seems a regular place for period drama's. I live in Maidenhead nearby. My kids used to go to a cubs camp just up from the village. Never know the Band of brothers filming though.

Truly an interesting look of what I suppose we Yanks would say is "a typical English village". The type (as well as from the general region) my paternal grandparents left from for a new life in the U.S., back before the First World War. That it's tied to the HBO BoB series is simply "icing on the cake" as they say!

Some of the original stable billets are in an indoor museum display in Taccoa, Georgia, not to far from Curahee.

The stable blocks were occupied by Able company 506th prior to DDay as there was only enough room for one company in them. Easy company occupied them briefly after dday before moving to camp chiseldon in preparation for market garden, at which point the 17th airborne took over the stables. Easy company along with other companies of 2nd btn and possibly baker company were situated on the green to the south of Aldbourne where time team did their recent digs

Thanks for that interesting video! I don't think you could get a more quintissential English village to film those scenes. Your opening shot of the church reminded me of the 1970's movie ' The Eagle has landed' but that is a different village! But I think, not far away. Cheers and thanks again.
