I think that maybe in my band (marching or concert) we might tune once per week (with a tuner). All the other times we just all get in sections and play a note and match each other's pitches and then do the same with the rest of the band (I am a trumpet player).

Because most of the time the flutes are the gossipers in my experience. I play baritone and the baritones aren't usually the gossipers. They're the ones who I can't trust with sharp objects, fire, or anything flammable plus they have decided that I'm a witch simply because I've figured out how to read their faces or in some cases I'll even be looking down at my phone and say "don't even think about it" and then before they can even say anything to defend themselves I say "I said no fire, no casualties, and no instruments in harms way so no" so I've been marked as a witch. Trumpets seem to be more obsessed with being perfect(or at least their head of section is). Mellows are just mellows. And tubas are just the strange beings who keep to themselves.

@@gingechicken7394 none of our trumpets really have much of an ego(one of our leaders in marching band my first year had a bigger ego than most of our trumpets)but that one leader and two of the first years just have huge egos and for the section leader it isn't even entirely an ego it's a lot more an issue of she thinks that she isn't good enough and that her section isn't good enough so she tries to push them and ends up pushing too hard and being way too hard on them and all of them become annoyed becausethey got an F on a homework assignment because they weren't able to finish it because she wouldn't let them go home once practice ended so she made them stay an extra hour or half hour(I'm not 100%sure since I'm nota trumpet)bjt thats the trumpet we have issues with other thsn the 2 first years who had their little bubbles pop so they're kinda over the whole ego thing
