Why E-K diagram of holes have separate branches where as electrons don't
@harshinibaggam76623 жыл бұрын
@Shravanee thank you
@theunknown432 жыл бұрын
Holes will be moving continuously towards right side in the V.B Where as electrons don't do. Since they r moving contiously their momentum will change contiously. So here by the e-k diagram for holes has many branches.

@@theunknown43 electrons also move in conduction band when e. F is applied and at same time holes move in VB.. Rightt??

how come a lot of electrons exist in the same energy state....? usually no 2 electrons have same energy states right...
@shubhayansarkhel43634 жыл бұрын
here that particular energy state splitted in a continum manner and those discrete energy levels create energy band what you are talking about is true for 1s, 2s state , but after spliting they (those energy state ) no longer exist.
@chinmaykulkarni2373 жыл бұрын
May be they indeed do not have the same energy state. Remember that here we are only talking about the probability of finding those electrons by classifying them in the same energy state. Am I making sense ?

But nptel karmalkar sir told that energy band diagram is not to scale

Hloo sir electrons are also moving in valence band along with holes. isn't it
@sanitparashar8381Ай бұрын
We model the movement of multiple electrons by saying that a hoke exists and it moves this way. U only have to take one. That's why holes are quasi particles. If u say both holes and electrons move u treat them both as real particles which is not possible

How is k=0 possible in E k diagram,as for k=0 lambda needs to be infinite?
@notnemeziz5 ай бұрын
k is momentum...which can be 0.....also lambda can be infinite since here lambda corresponds to reciprocal space (Fourier transformation of real space)....hence if there is no real space then k=0
@Neeraj-is1jt4 ай бұрын
K cannot be exactly zero we only take values which is very close to zero. If k becomes exactly zero it will violate the uncertainty principle

if the mass of electron is not same as hole then how the hole move because hole is heavier than elec.

Sir, can you explain how holes can get the mass. We are saying hole is absence of electron then how it will get specific mass.
@b_40_princekumargupta514 жыл бұрын
Holes are created due to absence of electron. When electron moves to CB he leaves an empty space in VB that empty space we call Holes.....now when we apply Electric Field say in the Right hand direction then electron are try to move in left direction and they fell the free space which we are calling holes means holes are nothing but electrons that's why holes have mass.....There is nothing called holes in any atom we are just name the empty space which was created by electron when he moves to CB and empty space we called it holes for our understanding this empty space is filled by electron during there motion when we apply EF.......So conclusion holes are nothing but electrons see 4:20
@Neeraj-is1jt4 ай бұрын
holes are just the absence of electron can u plz tell why there effective mass are different ?

How is he saying probability of finding electrons is 50% when it's clearly 100% according to the diagram?
