Bob, as a musician and music teacher you know that when the musicians are having fun and interacting with the audience, the music is SO MUCH better. Band Maid does that so well. Their live concerts, even in the smaller venues that I went to are, are simply so much fun.

You're so right about Saik getting better and better. She has taken lots of lessons and since her surgery has been focusing on healthy singing. She mixes a lot more, lets the mic do more work, and takes care of her throat when not singing. And the band has designed rests for her with instrumentals, Miku singing lead, and audience dialogs during the shows. This concert was three and half hours long and she stayed strong throughout. By the way, Kanami based her solo on the main melody which is another thing she often does which keeps the listener on board.

This concert at the Yokohama Arena set a high level mark for Band-Maid performances. I think every one of them was operating at a super high level that night. Saiki was noticeably on point all night long. I highly recommend getting the DVD/Blu-Ray. I watched the streaming live and I've already ordered the Blu-Ray. This was a concert for the ages, as the recent MV's show. For this concert they each had new battle armor outfits. Mincho looked amazing, as did Akane and Miku and Misa and Saiki! So many great moments...buy the Blu-Ray!

What you said about Saiki's voice sounding so strong and powerful here rings true with me. There are two other official live songs from this gig and her vocals are again big and bold, as is her persona on stage. The other 2 songs they released from this concert - DON'T YOU TELL ME and HATE? - have very impressive call and response pieces between Kanami and MISA but Saiki kills the vocals that bookend the 'duels' (and poor Akane often gets overlooked in the dazzling display but I know you'd recognise her as the scaffolding upon which everything else depends). I'm awaiting delivery of the DVD of this 33 song, 3hr 40 min concert and only have 19 more days (and 7 hours and 15 minutes) to wait!

Miho was the original bassist of Lovebites. For what it's worth, the current bassist of Lovebites, Fami, is quite similar to MISA in ability. Yes, Saiki has gotten better. In the early years of Band-Maid, she got by mostly on natural ability but didn't have much technique behind it. She began working with a good vocal coach when she began having vocal issues. She had vocal polyp surgery in July 2017 and has improved dramatically with each passing year. Her power and control are amazing, even moreso in person.

They have also redone 'Don't You Tell Me' LIVE with the Call & Response "Battle" like the old Zepp Tokyo LIVE version that was pulled from KZbin years ago ahead of a DVD release. You can only find it on the Chinese site Bilibili these days. You should do BAND-MAID more often, since you don't even remember their names. There is no one named Miho. Her name is MISA, All Caps, no last name, preferably chanted, 3 times, MISA! MISA! MISA!!! Maybe you should have to watch her documentary by Orenji as penance. Maybe Saiki's too. True, her voice has improved over the years since her operation to have the polyps removed, Miku had it too. It's the last show of the 10th anniversary tour. It's 3 hours long, so she's pulling out all the stops for the DVD. Also there's an anime OMV for this song. Check it out.

We certainly disagree on Saiki's voice, lol. I thought she sounded a bit tired and strained, but that's my own opinion of course. I enjoy this song, but I've noticed that Akane tends to often crash her cymbals during Kanami's solos, and that, especially live, can tend to wash out the guitar section a bit. Normally drummers kind of back off a bit during guitar solos since the guitar has become the focal part, and bass/drums just kind of keep time with maybe a few simple fills. In a way how they play works, but I'd prefer to hear Kanami's solo work be more distinct. Otherwise it's a nice song, kind of middle of the road for me in their catalogue of music. I used to have a top three of Lovebites, Band Maid, and then Nemophila, but since Lovebites still has yet to release new music, I now go Nemophila (they can play virtually anything, and Mayu's distinct vocals are hard to match), Lovebites and Band Maid. All three groups play different genres, although with similarities, and all three are top of the Japanese rock/metal scene.
@bobcieslinski7 ай бұрын
Those are all great bands. I've enjoyed everything I have heard from all of them so far. The last Nemophilia one I did was a great one. Very catchy with the music. All great comments, you sure know alot about music. That's awesome! Hope you got that car issue worked out too.
