Thanks to you and a very small majority of the vtubers that I'm checking out I'm starting to appreciate the idea of just talking about something that's old and see if it still stands the test of time even to this day. The fact that you do a good chunk of model kit reviews and a majority of them are older models to still see if they could still stand up to the big boys it's very nice and heart warming.

Keep in mind trade info was largely distributed by print back then and free information most definitely not at everyone’s fingertips. Bandai really tried hard to develop entirely new markets beyond teens and children in the 80's and 90's. They never really succeeded, but their fans grew up and the problem kinda solved itself with the huge enthusiast / collectors market today:)

A blast to the past! I used to collect HCM Pro figures in the far 2008, before switching to model kits. As of today I still own the Super HCM Pro Zaku II, which keeps being beutiful and impressive to this date. Said so, I noticed the your HCM MK II has in the side skirts the slots to holster the beam rifle or the bazooka ammo, nifty.
@HobbyClubhouse3 ай бұрын
I googled that just now. I actually didn't know they did a crazy package set like that. The Zaku II already came with a lot of stuff in the original package And yeah, there are those slots there on the side. The gun doesn't have connectors for it though...

This is like the 2nd time I'm commenting on a channel I really enjoy watching. A lot of Gunpla reviewers usually bore me I find myself skipping through half the video but your videos are so well researched, well edited that I've watched 90% of the reviews while you were absent from the KZbin. I occasionally would check on this channel during that time to see if I may have missed a video or something because KZbin can be really weird with recommending things or showing stuff from the channels that didn't upload in ages. Glad to see you uploading again, this channel is genuinely the most underrated Gunpla channel on the platform and I only wish great things for you and for this channel to happen in the future. I just got the MSZ-006 Z-Gundam from this series as well. It looks very new, almost mint. I thought it might be a reproduction, but I couldn’t find any details about a new production date. If it’s truly from 1985, I’m absolutely thrilled!
@HobbyClubhouse28 күн бұрын
You got quite a famous/infamous member of the family:) The Zeta is known for its rather funky proportions (super wide upper chest and also stumpy Wave Rider nose) It was made on and off during the 80's but it should be quite old if you have one. I don't think it was reprinted in the 90's and it's a slightly rarer HCM

The nubs and scuffs weren't a mistake, it was a way for people to learn how to take apart and rebuild the kits while learning how to sand. Those geniuses. But no for 1985 this kit doesn't look bad at all. Basic enough, but better than expected. I started building kits in the late 90's so im familiar with how old kits used to be. Heck I built some lil SD guy from the early 90's at one point and that was a blast.

@SamRK-10003 ай бұрын
Cool to see some more Gundam/Gunpla history! About the smell of the inside of the box-I actually went to an antique store in rural Ohio a little while ago with the family, and found an old LE MANS Ferrari model kit, back when Testors would make model kits. The box was pretty horribly crushed, and upon opening…MOLD! YAY! It did have an odor, the mold was everywhere (moreso green mold you’d see on bread or moss) and the decal sheet had merged into one of the promotional sheets inside the box. I think the kit is from 1998??? A very old model by my standards 😅 It’s actually molded really well and as far as I can tell, the construction on it is quite good. It’s better than even some AMT kits of the time or even some modern AMT car kits 🫢 It’s surprising how awful some of those kits still are. And that Ferrari kit also had stapled bags! I wasn’t even alive for that kit being around, but it still feels similar to look at the bag and imagine being a kid back then. Have a good week everyone :D

Older kits are so damn beautiful A lot of modern fans seem to expect a perfect "toy" out of box with every new release but they seem to forget or look down on the things that came before and basically walked (as much as the 80s articulation allowed them to) so that the modern kits can run
@HobbyClubhouse3 ай бұрын
A recent example I noticed with some heart are the Robot Damashii ver ANIME figures that care a lot about making something special. New figure products can often be over-stuffed with glam to the point of being a bit exhausting
@kxgr95223 ай бұрын
@HobbyClubhouse in general, western fans demand everything Bandai makes to have a lot of details and don't like anime accuracy This is why you see a rise in third party kits which imo look hideous since they aren't just detailed They're overdetailed So much so that it creates this ugly visual noise that doesn't look "cool" nor does it fit the "real robot" aesthetic which many use to describe them I guess in the eyes of someone who doesn't care about the anime, complexity is their priority Which is also why many gunpla builders hate old kits since they're neither complex nor perfect out of box

I only build the Dains so far, but it really shows what was possible but also what builders still needed to do themselves in 1987. The Bazooka having a BB shooter function was a nice touch as well.

Regarding the stapled bags, I actually bought a model kit of an SD King Ghidorah recently, by Fujimi, from their 70th anniversary line, and those runners came in plastic bags that were stapled instead of vacuum sealed, so, idk if some kit companies still do this overall, but, it's neat to see it, just like on the MK II's~
@HobbyClubhouse3 ай бұрын
I had no idea Fujimi still did that. Smaller makers probably find it easier to do that for smaller lots of products. I've seen old photos of Bandai factory ladies just sitting at a table and stapling bags by hand. Sure hope Fujimi has machines to staple their King Ghidora kits...

7:40 Actually this is why until even now i don't have much 'complete figures' because the visual defects (like paint bubbles or misaligned decals) and the nubs and imperfection (and loose joints too in some cases, looking at you TakTom!) usually annoys me to no end, even if it's on a hidden spot and also, most modern figures didn't have the "luxury" of, for example, this HCM, that can be disassembled by the user.
@HobbyClubhouse3 ай бұрын
I see modern pre-assembled products often glued shut everywhere or even sonic-welded together. If not, there's usually a ton of clips to lock everything down. They're super scared of lawsuits I guess, but like you said, fixing them up isn't as straight-forward as the Mk-II here
