I literally just ordered this to make a model of the Mandolorian Jedi cosplay I am doing. This way before I 3d print/fabricate anything I can try colors, etc out. This video has helped in planning greatly!

I just finished a kit-bash of the Shoretrooper and Stormtrooper into a sniper. I used an airbrushed Kleenex tissue for the camouflage cape and wrapping around the rifle. I may explore the gauze idea though so thanks for the idea. My rifle turned out similar to yours. It was a kit-bash of three different rifles, a Gundam magazine, a TIE interceptor landing skid, and an old 1/35th scale lamp post.

I kinda wanna make this kit now... if I were to make just a random nonspecific Mando though... they'd have to be in Deathwatch armor, I just love that era in Mandalorian history. I'd probably have to figure out a way to make the standard Deathwatch Thigh armor/holsters that they got on sale from Costco or something, cuz literally all of them have those.

To solve your problem with the gauze, you need to use PVA glue thinned with water. That's also called white glue. You can add acrylic paint to the glue and water mix. As to a ratio of paint and water you'll find what works for you. You can form the cape too. Fold over a corner, lay it over some paint brush handles and let it dry. Don't try to do it all in one go. Build up coats until it's like you want. It gets stiff as it dries so it might be easier to form later. Acrylic paint works best on it as it soaks into the fabric. Great job on your build. It looks outstanding !

Great work as always, man! You really turned this kit into something special! I have a question for you: when you spray on the gloss clear coat, do you typically spray it on wet (like a significantly thick coat) or is a good once-over adequate to protect the paint underneath?
@modelchili
@modelchili 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No with the Tamiya Gloss Clear I always do thin coats. I've been burned in the past when accidentally spraying on thick coats (see my TIE Interceptor build) where it started to shrink up and leave a rough texture. Having said that, the few times I've used Vallejo Acrylic gloss from the airbrush and that seems to work better in thick coats.

Awesome build man! the way you put together the sniper rifle so oldschool and kit bashing right there! BTW how did you come up with the design -theme ? did you do like a sketch or used reference photos or was it done on the fly or just had like a mental picture of what you wanted as final result? What about building a team of 4 or 5 special forces? sniper, demolitions, comms, hand to hand and the like?

ModelChili Scale Models yeah I'm terrible with a sowing needle but it may work best. Bit of wire sown into the lining to keep the shape as fabric at this scale lacks the weight to keep it in place though apparently wetting the fabric helps to mould. If you can get camo pattern in a small enough size. The bandage doesn't look that bad though.

Just curious, why did you use a heat gun when you were airbrushing?
