I was class nine student in Bhutan in 1990, when HM Birendra, the Queen and one son made a state visit to Bhutan. We went to Helipad to wave scarfs and flags to welcome him. I had the opportunity to see their majesties at a close quarter. I send my prayers and condolence from Bhutan. May the soul of their majesties find eternal peace.

That leads to alienation from people. Eventually people will start to despise that sort of snobbish elitist attitude. Paras crown prince cha, ma pani pro-republic nai ho. But I have deep respect for kings Prithvi Narayan Shah, Mahendra, Birendra and Gyanendra. First of all, we aren't poor mainly because of monarchy. Himalayas are the roughest terrain in the whole world, and we were always poor. How a poor chieftain from a remote hillock resisted European imperialism and built a patriotic country is beyond my comprehension. Mahendra received a Nepal that was already one of the poorest country in the world. But guess who built all the modern state agencies? Mahendra. Democracy came in 2007 BS. But guess who legally outlawed caste discrimination? Mahendra, in 2022 BS, after introducing Panchayat . Who built the East-West Highway which is the most fundamental backbone of Nepal? Guess who started Nepali Rs and an independent economic system in Nepal? Mahendra. Indian troops had forcefully stationed in Nepal China border from 1947 AD, after capturing Kashmir. Guess who removed them? Mahendra. He ruled for a short time, but if we are to ever develop as a sovereign nation, we will have walked down a course chartered by King Mahendra. King Birendra was a milder character. During his regime during both Panchayat and democracy, he had handed all state powers to civilian governments so you can hardly blame him for our poverty. King Gyanendra tried to end the civil war after the political parties started behaving like massive fuckups. But when the bloodshed started going out of hand, he quit his throne in humility and even now continues to live in his motherland, despite being disgraced. If political parties acted responsibly since 2047BS, we would have been 10 years ahead of where we are now.
