When I got started in photography, I thought the best way to learn was seeing what other photographers were shooting. Growing up in Topeka, Ks meant that I got to study a lot of photos by Rich Clarkson's excellent staff of photojournalists at the Topeka Capital-Journal, which included Jim Richardson. I've admired Jim's work since then and his work has been an inspiration. Great interview Jim.

I probably read and viewed "High School USA" over a hundred times when I was younger. Such a fine piece of work and he seems like a delightful gentleman.

Great interview! Planning my first big road trip to Kansas and all in no small part to Jim. Hoping to catch some of the Flint Hill and small town magic.

Good go-to lens. I use Nikon's 24-120 f4, and also carry a body with the 14-24 f 2.8. Those lenes cover almost everything I do. I really do need a 100-400. * Good advice on thinking about the audience. I use the same three things I use in writing: Position, perspective, and context. * I remember the sea turtle story. It was great.

I like the short time frame for this. I see so many that are so much longer. And Jim Richardson was great!

Wonderful interview fo a fascinating gentleman. Next time can we do 2100 questions. I'd listen to every single one.

That sounds like a good combination of camera lens. Mine is a Nikon D800 with 14-24 mm & 24-120 mm. A similar combo. I'd like a 200-600 also, but I'd not use it enough now to jsutify the expense.

amazing interview! but never said how he got hired, did he find a job posting somewhere? did he meet someone in the field that got him an interview? Would love to know as an aspiring natgeo photographer

Great interview. I thought Jim Richardson was a Nikon guy. Guess he switched?

Nope, still got my Nikons and find uses for them as well as the Olympus kit. Looking at the Sony system right now. Much to love.

Great subject for a interview and a incredible photographer. That said who interviewed him? A 8th grader? Seriously the questions asked and how they asked them was pretty pathetic and sad. The person interviewing this guy didn’t match the caliber of person this photographer is. BH do better next time it was sort of a embarrassment to this photographer.
