He always ends with, "Check back with us, because there is always A LOT going on". But, many videos have been taken away from us, and nothing updated for a long time. I know he has the other show going on, but the ehow pets is what really got me into watching, and helping my interest in wanting to get a farm to raise heritage breeds. So, when I find that place, I will be ready.

Hi there, thanks for your question. My first advice is that your chickens are too young to breed- the pullets wont starting laying until about 10 months. Even then, I would say not to set the first few eggs- you'll get a better hatch from mature hens. And at the end of the day, instinct will kick in at the right time for breeding. Good luck!

Breed for improvement traits from the breed itself is the best over years. Using new strain blood from other sources from Britain or England if you can. If you mix a larger breed into it, it won't be an old Dorking breed anymore?

I would never leave an endangered breeding flock to free range with one best rooster especially in my state Wisconsin. I would be feeding the predators here. I would breed the rose comb only. I think they would be more popular and cold hardier. Comb frostbite is the number one reason why no one picks this breed for colder states. Large comb looks great but just a problem in harsh weather. There combs look terrible after that. No 2 problem, slower growth to maturity. Maybe that's why they taste so famously great? A long time ago these birds used to be 14 pounds. What happened?

Where did you get your dorkings? I would love to help bring the breed back but no one has these except a few hatcheries online and then you can't be sure you are getting quality birds.

GentleHeart001. Sandhill preservation Center has different varieties of dorkings and you won't be disappointed by getting some from them. Let me know if this helps you.

Hi! Knowing nothing about chickens, I chose 1 male and 1 tool, silver grey dorking bantams (i think, because they seem smaller than what Ive seen on the web.) They are lovely! They are just about 28 weeks old and I plan to breed them. Any advice? Now knowing the breed is suffering, I'd like to do my best with them.

Hi Just caught this video on Silver Gray Dorkings. My flock is a mix of Blk Copper Maran, Legbar and Bresse. I keep a rooster to each breed with several hens - all separated I have no cross breeding. My goal is to produce colored eggs which are quite marketable hear with an emphasis on table birds. The livestock Conservancy continues to show the Dorkings as endangered, so I picked up a couple female chicks and plan to grow them out any maybe next year pick up a roo. Wondering if cross breeding the Dorking on the Legbar will result in a heavier bird. Have you crossed Dorking with either Marans or Legbar? I appreciate your reply. Thanks for the informative videos, I learns a little something from each.

Dorking/Legbar or Maran cross is in no way compatible to cross breed. They are too small and a dark brown egg layer.

Please don't cross them for any reason. The reason they are heritage is because for the last century, that is what Dorking owners have done. If you are raising chickens for eggs, then buy leghorns, and donate the Dorkings to someone who will develop the breed.

waste of time chicken you have buddy, not very good at egg laying and the size is too small for a meat chicken, just move on from them lol
