They were arguably the best RnR band in the world from 1991-97. Internal conflict - mostly via Chris Robinson - destroyed the band and a lot of their legacy imo. You might consider doing a video on how they had to scrap the original follow up album to Southern Harmony before eventually putting out Amorica. Was tentatively titled “Band”.

Never saw them live but love their first two albums although it’s been a while since I’ve listened to them. Watching MTV in the early 90s seemed to me that Chris was doing too much weed and being just an idiot which probably turned a lot of people off. Props to Chris for scoring Kate Hudson for however long that lasted. I almost said “Kate Hudson in her prime” but I think she’s in her prime NOW 😉

After their big "run," they came to Jacksonville, Fl. They played at a whiskey bar in a WHISKY TOWN. You know ..... Lynyrd Skynyrd? They started at 9:35 pm and were off the stage, in their bus, and GONE by 10:30. I never thought they were that good to start. So, i didn't buy a ticket. I just rode my bike around in the parking lot. When I saw them leaving before most people had gotten their 2nd drink.... I was thinking, "Woooo." Then the crowd came out. Bottles were being broken in the parking lot. Cuss words flying. I knew they burn their fans that night. This was probably 1998. I was surprised Page hooked up with Chris.

@Dr Slaps I caught his show a few times this past year traveling through Savannah. I don't listen to it daily but from what I heard he was as good as anyone I've heard on radio lately. He's not pretentious and is very good at telling a story. His delivery is very natural and doesn't seem forced . Most radio stations regardless of genre have a preset music feed & I'm not sure how much control he has over that. I'm not sure what your criteria is in a radio personality but I feel like you don't really like the Crowes therefore you don't like him.🤔

@Dr Slaps I live in south Georgia & about 20 years ago (doesn't seem like it's been that long) but there was an upstart classic rock station with a great DJ that called himself Crankin' Frank. In 1992 Black Crowes were touring Australia and New Zealand with Australian band, Baby Animals. Chris Robinson made a comment to Baby Animals lead singer, Suzanne DiMarchi "If you want to sing like a man, you gotta have balls" Suzi punched him and gave him a bloody nose. Chris went outside the venue to sulk. A fan whom Robinson had shoved off the stage during their set was waiting for him and beat him up again.

The singer in my band once saw the Crows as a fan in a large San Diego club. Our singer was maybe 20 or so, just a kid with a dream and he placed a CD of his band on the wedge in front of Chris, with a note that basicly just said, thanks for being such an inspiration. Chris picked up the CD, read the note and kicked it off stage like he was punting a football. Super dick move.

That's a pretty dick and sleazy move your singer did. Basically pitching his music which is really uncool. If it was just a note he wouldnt have reacted maybe that way- but the sleazy way to pitch your music circumventing conventional channels, cutting others = sorry I cant respect that. Its cheap, disrespectful and basically makes the message sound insincere and more like a manipulative move to get chris to listen to the music. I would have done the same in his place and maybe even invited your singer in front of everyone to tell everyone what he did and shamed him in front of everyone so he would learn a lesson how not manipulate people into listening his music.

Then in walks-The Black Crowes. I saw their van in the parking lot. They didn't order anything, just sat down at a table. From what it sounded like, they were on their way back to Atlanta. This was after their remake of "Hard to Handle' was all over MTV. They chatted a while, one of them denied smashing up hotel furniture. Then they all walked out, basically ignoring my friendly smile except for the guitarist-Rich Robinson I think?-who took a moment to give me a look of sneering contempt. Well that sure made my day. There was a place where we had all put our leather jackets. At the end of the show, Chris tried my jacket on, I watched him. Then he took it off. I thought he might have made a mistake. I continued at my post then went to retrieve my coat and it was gone. I thought he took it but they wouldnt let me talk to him and he was on the bus already. I went out in the parking lot and started yelling insults, and throwing rocks at the bus windows ( it was a gravel parking lot ). I like the Crowes they are always good live and I have seen them numerous times. They were very young though when Shake Your Money Maker hit big and did a lot of stupid things and were overly idealistic with some of their anti-corporate stuff they did. In the present day though the Robinson Brothers are as greedy as they come and basically kicked Steve Gorman out for the reunion tour because that would be one extra additional original member to have to share the profits with and they didn't think it was worth it since he was just the "drummer". I could see Chris Robinson get annoying to deal with after awhile touring with them. It helped that they were pretty grungy looking too. I mean, if they would’ve came out in hair spray and spandex or hairspray and Halloween costumes like the last of the hair bands did, they probably sink. They were good at what they did imo. Head case and all.

@@tonym2513 they looked like the stones circa sticky fingers or the small faces...when I look at the big 4 grunge bands and the crowes I think they have a totally different vibe . I think because the first album came out just before the grunge era by a year they almost rode that momentum with a really good follow up album that was even more southern rock at the height of grunge......but yeah definitely drama filled as you said...i looked back at a live show after the southern harmony album came out and they went full southern rock look...the first album they had a more grittier look like you said....their first 3 albums were almost flawless to me..the 4th a notch below but still great...great live band too...I saw them as a coheadliner with Lenny Kravitz, and then I saw them do zeppelin songs with Jimmy page...both times I saw them they were phenomenal live and I've seen em all....come to think of it they had a guns and roses look on the first album...def not hair band like you said...they would have been doomed

I’ve been a fan of the black crowes since they first hit the scene in 1990. I’ve seen them live many, many times-always a fabulous show! But Chris is just NOT a nice person. I’m basing that opinion off of comments I’ve personally heard him make about women who were just walking by minding their own business…Most of us were there just for the music, (although I’m sure there were some groupies along the way) and certainly not his looks but I’m thinking he didn’t realize that? I’ve seen Blues Traveler only twice. John Popper was a super nice guy both times and also played a great show. But I have to say…The Crowes music will always be magical to me regardless of what a d%ckhead Chris can be.

It's just childish that a supposed professional musician didn't get why using recorded harmonies gives you the best possible album to live sound. It's just childish. I watched queen live in 78 they used recorded vocals to cover the opera parts on Bohemian. Not a big deal. One of the best live shows I've ever seen. Chis was way too full of himself as most young men are. It's not like Tyler's lead vocals were a recording. Just a silly thing to get upset about.
