This is indeed another fine performance by Emma. Thanks for your reaction. MAX stands for Omroep MAX which is a public Radio and TV station meant to make in general programs for elderly people. In the Netherlands you can become a member of a public broadcaster, the more people register as a paid member, the bigger you become and the more airtime you get. So Omroep MAX has many members. Anyone can start a public broadcaster, but you must have at least 150,000 members and their objectives must be distinct from existing broadcasters.

Emma transcends all her covers with a voice that sends more emotions. She is a supernatural phenomenon. I hope that one day we will see great musicians writing songs for her, it would be great recognition for this immense talent. Emma with Amira Thank you for the beautiful reaction

This performance is every bit the equal of Voila. I believe it is even better. Foe anyone who may have believed Emma Kok was a one-off; a flash in the pan, this performance should dispel any such notion. Emma is displaying amazing vocal skills here. She has completely re-worked this song and made it her own. The result is sublime. This is a beautiful work of art, and you are quite correct, Emma is an artist, and of the first order; top tier. If Voila says 'here I am', Hallelujah says 'I'm not going anywhere, music is my world and I'm here to stay'. This is just pure beauty.

I would love to know if Emma when researching this Leonard Cohen piece if in fact she listened to the man himself perform it I do hope so , because she certainly sang with a purity the likes of which I haven’t heard before just as she did with Voila so carefully composed and structured accordingly so ✨✨magical ✨✨

Thank you for your thoughts and impressions of a wonderful new rising star, she is so impressive in anything she does. Emma first came to public notice in 2021, when she won the Dutch TV production of Voice Kids, (widely covered on KZbin) and then she went on to win a segment of Ministars early in 2023, singing Voila, France's entry in Eurovision 2021, sung by Barbara Pravi, and Pierre, Andre's son saw the recording, and showed his Dad who invited Emma in to the studio, and both have said, 'They clicked', and that's very evident from how they relate, the decision was made that Emma would perform Voila at the summer concerts, all 12 of them. Andre, his team and Emma changed the arrangement significantly from the version that Emma had learned and was singing regularly, they changed the speed, the tempo, added the key change before the repeat of the third verse, and basically gave Emma the space and time she needed to not just perform the song, she LIVED that song on the stage, it means a lot to her, the words express so much of the difficult life she's had to live. If you have the words, and there are several videos on KZbin with French and English subtitles, this one doesnt have Andre's introduction, but it's very good otherwise, and has the best sound quality, and no distractiong additions that some others have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpbPqq15ocafjNU This makes it very easy, the words are so powerfully Emma's story, that's why she chose it, and had to learn it phonetically, she doesn't speak French, the words and sentiments are so much her life, her fight to be accepted, even to accept herself, she was bullied when young because the kids around her didn't understand her size, even now she's tiny when compared to her peers, due to the gastroparesis, on the stage, she's wearing 6" heels, and from the time she started moving, she had to have a child size trolley to move the 2 pumps that she's attached to 22 hours a day since she was 9 months old, and her peers didn't understand that either, and it also caused Emma huge personal grief because of the massive limitations on so many aspects of her life, she was only properly diagnosed when she was age 10. Another side effect of the disease is that she doesn't have good stamina, and that's made worse by always having to move the pumps with her whereever she goes, so her activites at school were massively limited. As well as significantly changing the arrangement of the song, Andre and his team also made another change, very carefully, and wonderfully, every previous performance of Voila, Emma appeared very much as a competent, capable girl singer, Andre changed that, he had 4 different dresses made for her, and when they were ready, both Andre and Emma agreed on the choice, the black dress, and Emma said in a TV interview that when she was wearing it, she felt 'strong and powerful', and it showed. As Andre was introducing her, she disconnected the pumps, and moved to stand beside the stage, and despite her nervousness on that first night, she looked so composed and serene as she stood there waiting, and then at the right moment, physically, she walked out on to that stage. Mentally, it was a very different story, a year earlier, she recorded and released a beautiful and deeply emotional song ( on you tube, with subtitles in English) LAAT MIJ EEN VLINDER ZIJN , let me be a butterfly kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYrYaWmvfrJrn5Y You need to see the translation to understand the deep emotion, it's every bit as emotional as Voila, especially as she sings a section, around 2:10 in, 'if only for a day, or even for a count of ten, I'd just like to live as another', and you will then see a gentle shake of her head, the pain in her eyes, the recognition of the awful reality of her situation, and then her head goes down to silence for a moment. Then she rises, physically and in the song she soars to an even greater height, as much as to say, 'This is NOT going to beat me, or define me, I WILL rise above it', an incredibly emotional moment, it was written for her, an expression of her dream. That first night at the Vrijthof, which is also the video that's gone viral, (32 million views and counting still ) Emma changed, mentally, her dream came true that night, it happened for her, in the words of another song she's sung, 'Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this', and while she physically walked out on to that stage, mentally, she was the beautiful butterfly emerging from the long period of change, the chrysalis emerged from the cocoon and soared high and free over the stage. Emma mentally went up with it, and absolutely dominated that stage, the orchestra and the audience, and it's hard to realise that this was the first time she had performed the new version live, she was truly inspired, she didn't just perform the song, she LIVED it, she poured her whole heart, soul and emotions into it, and was so powerful yet vulnerable on that stage, the result was she reached into the very depth of so many people there. Andre had worked his showmans magic, Emma was no longer a comptent powerful girl singer, the new Emma emerged and soared, she came out on to that stage visibly and emotionally a beautiful, strong, powerful, serene, composed, competent, driven and dedicated young woman, her star rose, and shone bright in the sky. The only reason that Andre and the orchestra were not shedding tears at the power of that performance was because they'd shed them during rehearsals, and had steeled themselves to control those emotions during the performances, he admitted it freely when interviewed by Dutch TV during July. She is very different now to how she was at the start of the year, and able to perform freely in ways that are new, vibrant and absolutely top flight, she has the confidence and the security to know she can do it, and things like this performance of Hallelujah, her appearance over Christmas with Helene Fischer, on peak time German TV, singing a duet of Voila with Helene, her sublime performance with Andre at the Christmas concert of 'White Christmas', they all are facets of the new Emma who is very competently rising to meet any challenge that comes her way. She will be very visible in 2024, as she will be touring the world as a guest star with Andre RIeu for the whole year, which will be a significant number of very large concerts, and I know that Andre has the skill and knowledge to gently challenge and encourage her to perform to her highest potential, she's only starting to discover how good she can be, and how high she can rise on the rungs of the ladder to stardom, and with Andre to encourage her, give her an incredible platform on which she can shine, and at the same time, provide her the security of being under his wing, so protected from potential harm from the people who would seek to exploit her, 2024 should be a very good year for Emma, and I for one am delighted to see it happening for her, she never gave up on her dream, and now, it's being more than fulfilled, she's still coming to terms with how much has changed already, and there will be so much more to come. A plea in closing, to all the people reading this. If you can, please contribute to Emma's foundation, gastrostars.nl There are very few organisations doing research into gastorparesis, and it would be a tragedy if Emma was unable to continue because her health changes, and right now, there is no effective treatment or cure, it would be so good if ways to reduce her dependence on feeding tubes for 22 hours a day could be found, to free her from those restrictions, and allow her to truly fly high and free.

You are so right. Having Andre Rieu as her mentor and protector is very important. Even now I think there are people scheming how to make money off Emma and worse. Also, she looks very well, that is to say she looks very healthy. Her skin tone is good, her hair is lucious and very healthy looking. She seems very energetic and able to perform at the highest level. I wonder if there has been a positive change in her condition. Maybe a new treatment. Perhaps she is able to actually eat a little more and drink. Do you know anything about this. You seem to have inside information. Do you know Emma?

@exeter1588 I don't know Emma, more is the pity, I would love to meet her and her family, they are an inspiration! Most of what I post has been found on things like TV interviews that don't show up on the normal searches, and yes, there are people trying to cash in, literally, one on Facebook literally minutes after I responded was looking for money ' to fund an operation' and the language and spelling made it clear that it wasn't Emma, even though the name was right, and at the moment, she's not a verified user, so trying to report the fake is a complete waste of time. I like to hope that the love and friendship she's so clearly getting from Andre and all around him, combined with her own maturing into the young woman we now so clearly see have helped her mental position, she now knows it's happening for her,she doesn't have to fight to make her dream a reality, she's able to live it. That alone has to be so good for her, and the huge view numbers on everything she does is also wonderful. As for me, a 72 year old retired computer jack of all trades, with time to spend looking and searching for things I like, and I don't mind admitting, Voila at the local cinema as part of the summer concert hit me deep in places that don't get hit very often any more, right at the time when I needed a lift, and the more I see, and hear, the more I like, living in a detached house with a decent sound system on the TV has big advantages, and Emma has certainly been a strong favorite on my play list, and I hope she will remain so for a long time to come.

@@exeter1588 It's absolutely no trouble, I will have a look, most of the time, I end up having to watch interviews on Dutch television, and then rely on real time google translate, which is not too bad, and to do that, I'm using a reasonable Dell laptop rather than a mobile, which means that it's a text translation as subtitles, I will have a look and see if there's anything like you're looking for, but I'm not optimistic.
