There is normally a lot more tourists during the summer. The number of people visiting was exponentially lower than normal because of Covid-19. I can attest that it is normally a lot busier than this.
@canadaauroraborealis39582 жыл бұрын
@@bcatypical ---- I lived and worked in Banff for 10 years recently, and also worked there for a few years in the 70's, 80's and 90's and and I am a very typical BC Interior Patriot. What you do not get is that Banff's tourism industry is now mostly foreign owned, and most of the people who work there are foreign nationals on Gov't of Canada work visas. So do not tell me or others that the town "depends" on tourists. Most of the business owners in the 1970's, 80's and '90's were money-greedy Alberta and Ontario business capitalists who moved there to get rich, and many of them did, while paying their Canadian staff peanuts, housing them in crowded, messy "staff houses" (accomodation is scarce and high priced and the Park forces businesses to do this) these biz owners treated their staff like serfs and hiring and firing them like they were a "commodity". The National Park has limits on what businesses it approves and how big the town is, but the money greedy business owners are perpetually challenging this, and it is THEY who are destroying the park. Back in the old days, before 1975, it was different, and those people WERE LOCAL and did depend on tourism, and it is they who built all the old rock facade buildings you see in Banff and in Jasper too, and most of those people cared about the Park, but those days and those people are long gone.

What most Western Canadians dis-like is the Rocky Mountains and the Coast Mountains being thought of as "All of Canada" because Quebec and Ontario Provinces have for a century politically dominated and culturally / socially belittled the Western Provinces. British Columbia and Alberta Provinces, which are the Canadian Far West, are not always "Proudly Canadian" and many of us do not see ourselves as representing or being typical of "All of Canada". The Western Provinces also vote moderate conservative outside of Vancouver and Edmonton, and send vast amounts of tax money to Quebec, which is such an irritant in The Western Provinces that many people are voicing reform of the Canadian Political System.

Hotels in Banff, Canmore and Jasper towns are always looking for hotel room cleaners and front desk and office staff, restaurants are usually looking for food preparers, cooks and diswashers, jobs like these pay $17-$25 per hour Canadian currency and usually come with a company-provided furnished room shared with another employee of the same gender at a reasonable rent. You must apply through the Canadian Federal Government for a Temporary Working Visa, and there are many non-Canadians who work in this region in the hotel industry, it is about the only way to get to live in the Mountain Parks if you are from outside Canada, and even if you are Canadian, you must still work for the Park, the visitor service industry (tourism) or an essential service (schools, hospitals) to live in Banff or Jasper. Hinton just outside of Jasper Park has no such restrictions and has many hotels but is mostly a quiet timber and mining town, Canmore just outside of Banff Park has no such restrictions and has many hotels with an exciting mountain sports / environmental culture but is super expensive in rents and real estate, the city of Calgary is one hour east of Canmore on the main highway, the city of Edmonton is 3 hours east of Hinton on that main highway. The city of Vancouver is a 12 hour drive west of Jasper or Banff, with many small towns and glorious scenery along the way.

Beautiful Canada. Have been there for a holiday. Best thing to see was the Niagara Falls, simply breathtaking. People come from all over the world , they see the Falls - and they smile. We took one of the Hornblower boats and went foot of the Horseshoe. We could hear the roar, saw the rainbow and felt the mighty vibration and the emerald shower in the air all around us. We started screaming with joy and delight. Thanks for posting this video.

Absolutely awesome place. Such a big feeling that one time I'll come back with my family. I was here in summer. But winter ... it must be much better.
@davidmarshall7183 жыл бұрын
Winter in Banff averages -15 C/ 0 F, snow averages 2 feet or half a meter on the ground, it is often windy in the eastern Rockies, and often with high white shapeless clouds. It tends to be grey, stark and harsh. "Winter Wonderlands" occur only occassionally after a major snowfall. The western Rockies get much more snow, more clouded-in conditions, and slightly milder temperatures.

It feels like a fairy land too. The Canadian mountain sports and environmental crowd who frequent this region, many living in the nearby town of Canmore, made it that way. At least that's how it felt all through the 2001 - 2020 era, I lived there. People who love this region are very proud and protective of this place, meaning all the Parks in this region, 25,000 sq km / 10,000 sq miles, nearly all of it wilderness. Make the mistake of littering and a local or regular visitor may scold you, and the Parks Rangers have strong powers to impose money penalties or even jail time for serious infractions like using dirt motorcycles, improperly placed campfires, or vandalism.
