Banff to Lake Louise To Moraine Lake return

The walk up the rock pile at Moraine Lake is very friendly and of course has a great view without too much fuss. Maybe not ideal for carrying a bike and walking in cleats though:). Nice video.

I've done this ride a couple times now, and the extra time/distance up to Moraine Lake is definitely worth it. For those that want to cover more distance, the ride can start/end in either Banff or Canmore, and add in the Legacy Trail and Vermillion Lakes Road. The climb up to Moraine Lake is deceptively difficult, not only because of the distance already in the legs by the time you reach it, but also because the air is noticeably thinner. I believe its 150m or 200m higher than Lake Louise, which puts it up in the 1700m+ range of elevation. The road surface on the descent from Lake Louise is not great, and there's no shoulder. Take the lane and take care. As recommended in the video, a weekday is a great plan. If one does this ride on a weekend, even more care is needed, and one should expect to be climbing up to Lake Louise beside cars stuck in bumper to bumper traffic waiting for spaces in the parking lot to open. Considering there's no shoulder on the way up either...road space is at a premium. Take care. All that said, using a bike to get to these lakes is the best way to see them, and worth the effort. If one doesn't have the legs for the climbing, consider renting an e-bike. Great video, and thanks for sharing it!

Love this video. Pity about the rain at Moraine Lake. How do you feel about the Bow Valley Parkway being closed to cars at certain times? It sounds like a great idea to me.

The road closure is really nice Stephen and not much of an inconvenience for cars.
