Just yesterday I did a 108 kms ride, in 35C plus temperatures. The 10 kms before the end was a 12 kms steep uphill climb. At every bend, it felt like it would plateau , but it didn't. I pushed the loaded bike, rode in the lowest gear, and eventually, after what appeared an eternity, i reached the top. After which, it was 30mins to my destination. So when you say, you're tired, i can feel your exhaustion. But the end is what matters. ATB, That Travelling Guy...

Yes! You know exactly how it feels. And you are right, the destination, in this case, more than made up for the tough climbs. Also - I'd much rather climb in colder temperatures than in 35C.

Lake Louise has SO much hype, we were also a little underwhelmed when we visited. Other glacial lakes in the area are just as beautiful. Great video Agnieszka!
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
I'm "glad" to hear I wasn't the only one that was underwhelmed. I think it was the commercialization of nature that I didn't like. The big hotel is an eyesore almost the mountains and lakes, but I understand the economic draw of having it there.

Thank you. In the moment I didn't consider the impact of altitude on my output at all. Watching the videos now, I know altitude had an effect on my performance and how difficult I found the climbs to be.

Good ride, Icefields Parkway is amazing, I biked it 30 years ago, never forget Bow Pass and Sunwapta Pass, I biked to TO so I'll be following you til the end. N of Superior is scary, small shoulder and lots of trucks , be careful . 😊

Your photography is stunning. It is hard to capture the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies. Bravo. 🎶🎵 Ole' Ole'Ole' 🎵🎶 were you channeling your inner Van Duzer? He is a cycling you tuber. Thank you for putting the dates on your videos. It is very helpful for anyone thinking of riding this route. Hope you are fully recovered. Cheers

Thank you. Yes, it's very difficult to showcase natural beauty such as the Canadian Rockies. The videos don't do it justice and my hope is that people are inspired to visit themselves. LOVE Ryan van Duzer and yes, "ole" is a page out of his book. :) I'm glad you appreciate the dates on the videos, they are important for planning purposes if anything.

Nice to see more videos, mid-June and it’s so cold in this part of the country.

Yes, I was surprised mid June had so much snow and how cold it got in the morning/evening. But then again - elevation and mountains.

When I hit a steep long grade, I say to myself, but out loud, "We love up hills, we love 'em," over and over several times. Saying it out loud seems to be the key. It psykes me out and tells my subcosciens to enjoy the uphill, I suppose. I've done it for twenty years, hiking and biking, and it works. I relax and just keep going more easily. Try it.

Thank you for sharing what works for you! That's a great phrase. You're right about saying thigs out loud - it makes a difference. I talked to myself through tough times and it helped.

Someone has been watching Ryan van Duzer videos. :) He’s such an inspirational human being. I did a bike trip from Haines Junction, Yukon over the divide to Haines Alaska. Spectacular views on the top (no lakes but wide open treeless views). It was a difficult climb though.

Welcome back! Enjoy this part of the trip. It is one of the most beautiful parts of Canada! I was surprised to see your tent leaking! Was it brand new?
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
It was glorious. The tent was brand new - the MSR Hubba Hubba. I then replaced it for another tent which leaked as well. And then I went with Big Agnes and now my tent woes are finished.

@@WheelsonaBike right, hence your tent review video a few episodes earlier.

Yes, the new tent was featured in the camping setup video. And I can confirm that it doesn't leak as I encountered lots of rain after I filmed that video.

Since you have most of the lighter weight gear, you should return one day and hike many of the trails that you rode by. Would be a great compliment and a different perspective. Nice work on Bow Summit, it's definitely a doozy. Also agree on Lake Louise, it's not what it used to be; and I'm glad you didn't tackle that hill!
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
I'd love to do some hikes in the area, although I'm not experienced enough and would most likely do a group hike. Lake Louise is just too commercialized. The hotel is massive and it overshadows the natural beauty of the place. It's way too close and it just ruined it for me.
@wanderingpanda6556 Жыл бұрын
@@WheelsonaBike As a kid I always preferred Morraine Lake over Louise for the exact reasons you describe. As for hiking, the beauty of Jasper is that you can go for a little or as much hiking as you wish. Group hikes, however, is a great way to start. Anyway, your bike trips are great to watch as I only did my first one a few weeks ago so all the little tips are appreciated!

You need to be at Lake Louise around sun up which means around 8 to 10 am. and of course it should be sunny. then you will see the heaven.
@WheelsonaBike Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the best time to visit. Sun would've definitely helped. I think what turned me off was how "commercialized" the place was. Traffic everywhere on approach, the big hotel, I just wanted nature. Maybe because that's all I saw on the Icefields Parkway.
@peterlehman8448 Жыл бұрын
I used to know someone whose ancestors were Finnish. You remind me a lot of her. Cheerfully annoying. I am enjoying your commentary nonetheless. (So! Much! Traffic!) I am looking forward to riding from Waterloo ON to Halifax NS summer of 2023, or 24,... or 25? Last year I went from Waterloo to Ottawa and back. (Warm up!) peace! Looking forward to the rest of your journey!

Thanks for watching and for the comment. Interesting observation about the traffic, I thought it was quite low on the Icefields. It increased considerably when I joined hwy 1 into Lake Louise. It was a bit of a shock. I hope you go on your ride to Halifax.
