What I did was start w the down, help tip like you did, then I make a gun shape w my hand and use my fingers to help his face go as well. Sometimes if he doesn't do the full thing I wave my "gun" fingers over and he already knows it means he needs to lay his head back too. It's funny watching this after, basically that's also what you're teaching so I'm happy I did it right!

LOL they are not calm doggos (they only play calm dogs on TV lol!). They are high energy working and herding breeds. But for certain dogs it's really helpful to take them on a nice hour long sniffy walk before starting training. And be sure to keep training sessions short. If they aren't listening to your cues, it's them telling you that they don't understand them and you need to train them further. Make it fun and keep it short.

@DoggyU4 жыл бұрын
So to do this trick, you do need to teach a down first. For little dogs you can build a bridge by sitting on the floor with your legs in a bridge. Lower the legs as low as needed for the dog to need to get on their belly to get the treat under your legs.

Hi there, I know this is an older video but I'm hoping to get a response. My dog is doing excellent with tipping, we've had 3 or 4 sessions roughly 10 to 20 minutes each and he's at the point he will tip each time I say bang and bring the treat around and over his head, but using the verbal command and the gesture of the gun alone won't have him tip. He seems to be stuck associating the action of tipping with my hand going over his head instead of the gun and verbal command. Is this something that more practice sessions over the next few days will help with? I'm following everything to a T. He is an older dog though but he's highly intelligent, I just feel I may have dumb something wrong to where he's associating tipping with movement over his head more than the command itself

Learning the cue can be really challenging for some dogs and takes lots of repetitions. You're likely not doing anything wrong, just need more practice. I would do a 2 minute session twice a day for a week. Also make sure you're giving the verbal cue and finger cue a second before you use your hand to roll over his head. He will get it eventually, will likely just take time. Make sure the sessions are short, and if you'd like me to review video of your training and give you more specific pointers, check out my patreon page at Patreon.com/doggyu. Happy training!

Cries in littermate syndrome!!! 😢 Impossible to teach littermate brothers tricks due to so many issues that stemmed from it. Wish I knew beforehand to never get two pups the same age. Too late now, they just turned 1. 😢😢😢 But love your video, you're such a great trainer!!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with that! I highly recommend getting a trainer on board, and spending time with the pups and existing and training separately throughout the day. While it can be challenging, progress can always be made! Good luck

It can be challenging when my dog is not treat/food motivated. 2 year old border collie. I can get her to lay down, and on her hip.. but i can quite get her to roll over :p Were workin on it lol. Shes a good listener tho, she wants to learn.. i think the problem is my ability to learn :p

If they're not currently food motivated, i would work on increasing their food motivation first. If they eat to stay alive, they can be trained to eat as a reward. I'd up the value of food and find out in which scenarios they will eat and then build on that. Things like steak, fish skins, chicken, whip cream even, can be great options for getting them excited about eating treats. You can also reinforce eating with things they do like, like if they eat a treat, they get to play tug. This will make eating a more functional reward.

Hey Charlotte! Shorter, more frequent sessions will get you more progress more quickly. Try 2-3 minute training sessions 1-2x a day. Hope that helps!

Hi Betty! I actually have a Deep Dive webinar over on Patreon that discusses how to curb nipping and biting behavior in puppies that might be helpful: www.patreon.com/posts/all-things-for-74993930
