Brad reviewing Immolation, interesting! This album picks up from Atonement and is the equivalent of being suffocated and crushed at the same time and has some nice call backs to Immolation's arguable peak between 1999-2005. Also, this is Steve's best perforformance since he joined the band IMHO. Along with Immolation, I cannot get enough of Schizophrenia's album Recollections of the Insane. Anyone who enjoys death/thrash should give this album a listen!

Acts of God has me so fucking excited to see them live! Considering Atonement was flawless (for me) I just knew their follow up would match that quality level. Yes the new album drags on a little, I feel that too, but I’ll take that any day over it being too short! Edit: Saw them tonight, they were fucking legendary for an underground venue! Immolation are hands down the most melodic and stately/classy old-school DM band around. You could add orchestras to a lot of their songs and it wouldn't sound out of place. They're far from melodeath. Way too brutal for that. But their riffs are earworms and the atmospheres they create a huge, grandiose, almost Baroque. One of my favorites.

Underrated band, they get lumped in with lots of other classic bands but their style is so unique... It's that riff pendulum that Brad talks about, I described it as riff phrases, combined with the sheer power and dissonance. They've got a style but it's never too repetitive. Just unmatched at what they do. And Atonement was very much not an average album, one of the best death metal albums of the decade.

I definitely understand that sentiment, I feel like with the way music has been going lately with long records/lack of quality in towe is sorta forcing a weird requirement for short albums with absolute slackers that stand on their own and are easier to identify - either way an album fucking slaps or it fucking suckzzzzzz. Glad we didn't have to worry with this record and can hopefully expect many more to match at this quality!

It was like 92 or 93 when I got Dawn of Possession and it was great. Production was a little muddy but what wasn't back then besides Scott Burn's produced albums? I really kinda just heard bits and pieces of Immolation material after their debut. Really liked the first album and they just kinda fell off the radar. These guys and Incantation are the two old school bands that when really good they are really good, but when they are not as good they get placed in a zone of monotony. This album sounds really good though. Can't wait to hear the whole album.
