Cattle decapitation weren't on my radar until they started dropping songs from this album then I went back and checked out their catalogue and I'm a massive fucking fan now. This album is amazing and "the weird goblin singing" kind of reminds me of Overkill who I also love. I really disagree with your opinion on overusing the "cleaner" lines, because this (and couple earlier's records at last) have a great lyricism in them. For this style of music it is sometimes really hard to hear/understand the lyrics, which in this case are great. I as a fan of course read and "study" all of the lyrics to give me deeper understanding of the song, which truly makes me appreciate the song even more. But if I want to play one of their songs for example in my car for my friends, they won't understand a single line of most of the songs... But thankfully there are those "cleaner" parts in which the message of the song comes clear for almost anyone listening - and that sometimes that awakens some conversation about the band, themes, lyricism... BRING BACK THE PLAGUE!

Death Atlas was by far one of the most anticipated albums from one of the pushing-boundaries metal bands out there. And it does not disappoint. This is a complex album, beautifully crafted, captivating, brutal, technical and moving. These guys outdid themselves, which was not an easy task after the amazing Monolith and The Anthropocene. And here they are with this killer album, one of the finest released this year, in my own opinion. And the "emotional" part makes a huge difference, compared to all the albums that are "brutal/evil/technical/etc." just for the sake of it.

In my humble opinion The Anthropocene Extinction (AE) is still their best album, and since it sets the bar soooo fucking high, it is very difficult to keep that kind of quality for extended periods of releases. If AE was a solid 5/5, I'd say that this album deserves a 4,7/5, which is pretty damn good, and much better than 99,9999 % of the music that's out there.

KZbin has been increasingly aggressive with music clips sometimes pulling our videos before we can air them. Getting rights from the label can help but most labels employ a third party to monitor online content so we're doing what we can but in short music copyright on KZbin is minefield and we can't afford to have our videos taken down by a bot.

Now death atlas is hands down this years' favorite album from my perspective. I feel like every song is part of a bigger story going darker and darker. I don't mind the interlude as I think they help the album breathe. Now when I revisit the album, I'm still amazed by how great it is, front to back, interludes and all. I really love it. Starting out as a pretty standard genre band and after years of grinding in the undergroud they now put out truly great albums. What an amazing band, really amongst the greatest in metal. I could write on and on about how I love this album and this band in general. But I instead point to the fun fact, that I could have written this, word for word, under a review of any one of the latest borknagar albums and still would believe every word of it.

First song ever I heard from Cattle Decapitation was Death Atlas they featured couple days before release... all thanks to one of the videos Phil Bozeman did and mentioned him, I love Whitechapel too :D so I checked them out and holy fuck... I teared up in the end of that song, so apocalyptic and melancholic with the most brutal and death metal straight from hell blast part in the middle with haunting voice of Travis. I instantly got hooked and listened to all their previous albums, even the old demo before Travis Ryan joined the band. I'm lucky I live near Toronto and I bought myself a ticket to see them live next Wednesday DEC 4th. I'm gonna buy their Tshirt or 2 even, CD and a flag possibly LOL. I’d have to agree with some of the sentiments below, this album deserves a 4.5 imo. Also - Just discovered Sanguisugabog. So thick and juicy! Cavernous death metal is great.

The overall sentiment of this review is the first I have found that mirrors my own feeling of the album. Long-time fan and the immediacy is not there...after a dozen or so listens, only the chorus of a couple of songs are stuck in my head. None of the riffs like on other albums, particularly the last 3.

This dude knows his shit amazing review good words to describe stuff.. the "Goblin" vocals were way over used in this album.. but I still love it tbh

It didn't immediately grab me as well, but a year and a half later it's still probably the best extreme metal album I've heard in a really long time. I do enjoy it more than their previous releases which although had greater highlights, they also had moments I found a bit tiring. This just feels much more well balanced. I thought that making a video for Finish Them was a strange choice, which I feel is the weakest track on the album. If I was to try to dissect and analyze it the way reviewers do, I would maybe also come to a similar rating, but given the number of spins it got from me, it'd be hard to deny how much I enjoyed it. Also, it's ok to feel things.

Absolutely brilliant album. I can not seem to stop listening to it over and over.

Travis himself has said that those vocals are not singing, that it is actually a scream. He's been employing and refining that technique since Harvest Floor. I get if people don't like them, but let's not be ignorant and call it singing.

I’ve never given this band a chance and started with death atlas, and holy fuck is it good. This shit is a god damn masterpiece! It is just executed so perfectly. I went back and tried all their other stuff, it’s alright but I’m not a fan of grind. So with that, I really, really fucking hope they stick with this direction they’ve gone in. And keep the goblin vocals because they are extremely badass and unique!

As is sorta normal. My favorite tracks you like least ... Generational perhaps. The interludes make the disc. 5 skulls
