I think the 'factory' near the river in this video is the North Bangkok power plant, which currently runs on natural gas. But yeah, there are factories emitting particles for sure. Of course the main cause in Southeast Asia is the agricultural burning. They always say they're going to 'stop it' after the farmers have already been burning for weeks or for months.

@@keisone When I first saw that one from the river ferry I thought it might be a nuclear power plant because of all of the cooling towers! 🤣 Then I thought it was coal-fired, but it looks like they've switched to natural gas, maybe in an attempt to reduce emissions.

I have had air purifiers in my house and office with separate air meters. They actually make a massive difference. Rooms go from over 100pmi to 4/5. Must have for anyone living here long term. Another positive if you can call it that is that many of my friends that smoke have developed sore throats and have laid of the habit.

The bad Air-quality probably from farmers burning off the leafs of the harvest, and the lag of rain.. Thailand should bann that procedure… I witnessed back in 2012, in Issan as They went into the fields sprayed gasoline on it and lit it up.. Mostly sugar.. I never experienced such a toxic air-quality, and was happy to get back to Pattaya, after a couple of days.. Also, as I traveled to Thailand for the first time in 2009, I was told already on the flight to BKK that the air is very bad in Bangkok.. Soo this issue is not new.. Thailand should just outlaw open fires on harvests, monitor and sanction farmers who keep doing it..

Every year it's the same story. If they'd just invest into some proper agricultural waste disposal options for farmers across the country (go per county), this issue would be greatly reduced. They ignore the main reason every year and instead focus on fossil fuel powered vehicles. Sorry, even if every last vehicle was electric you're still going to have red and purple levels of pm2.5 until you tackle the crop burning...

Much of Thailand's (read: not Bangkok only) air pollution is from rice farmers burning their rice straw after a harvest when the straw is dry - aka the hot season. Three rice harvests per year can be done in certain parts of Thailand. The ashes return nutrients to the soil. Rice farmers are generally poor so government edicts that make their lives more difficult are often ignored. Should the government collect the straw for free, compost it and return the compost back to the farmers for free? Thai Jasmine rice is a major export earner for Thailand but then so is tourism. As for Bangkok the free use of the city's electric mass transport lines yesterday, 25 January 2025 and for the next 6 days may have reduced vehicle traffic and subsequently air pollution a bit. I just hope that the government don't use this as a "Climate Change" ruse to introduce other aspects to control people's lives.

Bad air quality is a regional problem and complicated by money and big corporations. Burning is still the cheapest and easiest way to clear fields for poor farmers who are being squeezed by the fertilizer producers on one side and the organizations who buy their produce cheap. We got some really nice single digit temperatures in the North this year and great cherry blossoms but with that cold air from China came the early smoke. Soon enough the AQI numbers will reach 400 and above when the burning season starts in earnest in March.

They really have to get serious about not burning it is uness, you can tilt the earth, and replacing all scooters with EV's and for any ICE vehicles get Particulate Filters it is 2025. All buses should be EV busses like we have in my country all our busses are EV's time to make huge overhauls. ALL factories should have stack filters, polution used to be bad in my country but we did all of those things now we are around 30 maybe 50 on a bad day a lot of those places are around 150 to 200 PPM it is unacceptable people get lung cancer, bronchitis, severe asthma etc, why?! We have the tech, make the correct policies people will live longer healthier and happier. Diesel particle filters, EV scooters and STOP burning will make a HUGE difference.
