Great video. Nice to see they updated the Miami Hotel. That was the second hotel I stayed in on my first trip to Thailand in 1982. The hotel was pretty worn out even back then, I assume as a result of the countless flow of guys on RR back in the Vietnam war era, but I loved the pool! Oh, and thanks for the tip on the ice cream with Roti. I can’t believe that after all these years I’ve never tried that!

Literally as I start to watch this I've only been back an hour from Los Angeles international airport and my 2-week visit to thailand. I spent 6 days in Bangkok, 3 at the solitaire Sukumvitt 11, and the last three at the Miami hotel. I enjoyed it it was a nice hotel for a great price and while I was there they had some kind of a Thai movie they filmed at the pool. I had a lady stay over that night so we watched it together for a while before she took me to the mall and took some of my money lol. I had a blast and unfortunately while I was there my 8-year-old German Shepherd dog died. So here I sit in my home and I'm only home for an hour and my dogs not here... I was doing a recon on Thailand to come with him to live there and I was thinking Hua Hin. I was thinking it was going to be hard on him too. Now I don't have that problem. My home is a 40 ft motor coach and as soon as I can sell it and my other stuff I'll be back in Thailand for awhile. In my opinion the best bar in Sukumvitt was the game. A sports bar with three pool tables two of which has competition every night and they have Guinness on tap beautiful waitresses and bartenders and it's right on circumvent so you can sit out and look at the view or you can sit at the bar and watch the pool game. But yeah I did not find Bangkok especially inexpensive although there were some pretty good places for inexpensive but excellent Thai food. I think it's like anywhere else you can go from really cheap places to really expensive places relative to the local economy. But we westerners really inflated for the average tie which could never afford any of those prices. Well except for the bar girls, maybe, but only during the high season? I don't know I've only was there 2 weeks and fell in love with Thailand but I'll have to be there a lot longer before I can say anything with any certainly. Anyway it's because of your videos and a few others that got me into the idea of going to Thailand and either I will curse you forever or buy you a dinner and a drink the next time if we meet.

two comments - 1. at 30.00 minuets in video is ( crazy house sign ) this go go bar is not on SOI Cowboy but just around the corner from top of Cowboy , if you miss going in there you miss the best go go bar in Bangkok. have been in there many times ! cost of drinks, bar fines , go go girls ST AND LT , all in line with other go go bars.. 2. COUNTRY ROAD BAR has more than one band on every evening , second band comes on later in evening, this video you see rock band, BUT the bar also have country western band and also have older era who play 60 to current music, best bands on Friday and Saturday. also can order food and eat while listening to bands, also can sit on porch at rail and see what is going on on street,

Recently subbed, and while I prefer a slightly shorter vid, generally, I *love* the treasure trove of info and prices you never fail to provide/ include -- as well as making it clear what it would be like to actually be there. I'm essentially retired -- frugally, mind you -- and am amazed at how cheaply I could enjoy all the comforts I could ask for (in place of my crappy North Vancouver apartment, damn near old social housing). Bangkok probably not my speed, although should definitely visit a couple times -- I think Cha-am or Jomtien is more where I'd be comfortable -- think *Kitsilano vibe* before all the big money came in and wrecked a lot of it, lol. Gotta agree with the Jakarta bands from the clips you shared -- a good Meatloaf cover can be like an out-of-body kind of experience! Cheers!...from North Vancouver

Hey Adrian, I was born in N Van and my biggest regret is not keeping my condo (walk to seabus, view of harbour) but way priced out now! Loved ol' Kits & the vibe too. But best come over for an extended look first and don't burn any bridges just in case. Chok dee/Good luck. STL

@@SideTripLife Thanx! Interesting about your condo "regret" -- I'm on East 5th just East of Lonsdale and have a "peek-a-boo" view of the Seabus on the other side as well as, I think, the Scotia tower -- it's a pretty picture at night, for sure, although N Van has changed a lot with many new towers gone in from Esplanade to 3rd -- plus Covid took down many charming Mom'n'Pop's -- it's more & more going Elite all around me. Was it difficult for you to learn the language in Thailand? Thanks again! PS -- I must have been tired! How did I mix up Meatloaf and Queen!?!! Lol -- both awesome, tho...

Yeah, I know, I was absolutely gutted when Via Vai disappeared about 3-4 years ago, great food and atmosphere. always packed so i was shocked they couldn't make it work. That was my goto Italian for years. There was another great one on Khao San road called the King and I, that was even better just incredible italian food, probably the best walnuts and cream truffle sauce ravioli I have ever had, that one evaporated and i soon discovered Via Vai. I don;t live in Bangkok anymore, so I only am down there 2-3 times a year for a week from upcountry, so I haven't had enough time to find something i like as much as the two aforementioned Italians. I do enjoy Wine Connection Suk Soi 11 though and they have a great lunch deal everyday you get a pasta dish a side dish such as salad and a glass of good wine for less than 400 baht, a great restaurant to go to if you like wine, supermarket prices on the wine and a wide selction by glas or by the bottle. very comfortable couches and a huge window you can look out of and watch all the people on Soi 11 which is quite festive and busy nearly every night.
