In vietnam I hacked the system by adding 2 million dong to the bill, and the restaurant kindly give me the money.😊 I guess some of restaurants in thailand could do the same? Another trick I use is to help someone in the willage shopping. They pay me in cash, but I buy it with my credit card😊

27)Don't overpack - so true - i could do laundry very easily. Also avoid hard-suitcase, it is easier to carry a big backpack especially if you change hotels and move a lot across the country.
@twentyrothmans73082 жыл бұрын
A lot of work went into this, Peter - thank you! I'm a bit of a noob compared to you (29 years and 25 visits), but here are my opinions/expansions on your points from what I've seen and done - wrongly. 2) If possible, obtain the business card from your hotel, with its address written on it in Thai. If you're going out, ask the hotel staff to instruct the driver of your taxi . 5) Agoda has great rates but if you have hotel membership (Hyatt/Accor/Hilton/Marriott) you won't get any points or privileges. 11) Small denominations of B20, B50, B100 are worth their weight in gold for small tips here and there. 7/11s are good for obtaining these, if not the money changer. £50 are best rate when you are cashing. 14) You never know when you have to drop your shoes, so make sure your socks are new. If you have size 12 feet, don't count on buying them there. 20) If anyone has a proven method of handling perspiration, please sing out! Always carry a bottle of frozen water with towelettes/flannels wrapped around it when you go out. 21) Immodium is your friend and eat farang food from 13 Coins &c. on the night before you fly home - it's not the time to experiment. I pop one before the flight just in case. 23) Haggling is best done with a smile. If he lets you walk away, either he wouldn't make money or he'd rather go for easier prey. 27) If you want to go into the Oriental, you will need to be dressed properly. May I add a few? Good whisky or (practically any decent) wine are highly prized gifts and go a long way. If nobody deserves it, you can drink it yourself :-) If you are going to treat yourself to a business class internal flight, note that the lounge and the flight will be dry. In Bangkok, move your hotel to be close to where you want to go if you want to shop, avoid congestion, or get home quickly when you're out late. Small family restaurants catering mainly for Thais in small sois offer food to die for and will really look after you if you make repeat visits. (This is for solos or couples, not for a cohort of rowdy men). Mom and pop shops sell many of the same things as 7-11 and Family Mart at the same price, and will be glad of your business. Cash only. If you prefer wearing made to measure clothes, ask an old hand for a good tailor (ignore the touts) and a suit will take about ten days and three/four fittings. Finally, never show anger. We're guests in their country and this isn't some sort of inclusivity workshop. Even if you get ripped off a bit, just smile, let it go and get out.

Also with #20, I have these neck coolers that have crystals in them that turn to gel when wet, I use them on motorbike rides in warmer weather at home and in Thailand, you soak them in icy water or just cold water, even drop them once wet in a freezer for 20 minutes and tie them around your neck, they cool the blood running through the caratroid artery in the neck, makes a big difference, they sell on Ebay.

Hi Cousin Dupree, I know you are a long time viewer and subscriber to the channel, thank you. However, I really must disagree with you on these two points. Firstly, I think it is up to the individual how much he/she decides to pay/tip. I personally would not be influenced by your comment, it really is only the business of the person paying or tipping and no one else. Secondly, of course, like the tipping it is up to the individual if he/she decides to brush his/her teeth with tap water however, the next time you do this please think about the number of dead rats, cats, birds and even human waste that gets into the water system.

When in the Middle East and going to Thailand it was cheaper to change Dirham to $ first before travelling then change in Thailand. This was in the 90's so maybe Yuan is better now. Oh yes you have different rates for different denominations Higher gets better!

1:56 even cards with "smart-chips" are getting cloned?!?!?! i thought those are very much more secure. besides a PIN is still needed. i've run the magnetic strip through a reader before. all that is contained is the card number on the front face of the card. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS COVER YOUR FINGERS WITH YOUR OTHER HAND WHEN KEY-ING IN YOUR PIN IN CASE THERE IS CAMERA INSTALLED TO RECORD YOUR PIN INPUT. exclusively using "bank branded" ATMs will be preferable BUT NOT FOOLPROOF as "card skimmers" can be made as an attachment that would look perfectly as though a genuine part of the ATM so ALWAYS BLOCK-HIDE YOUR FINGERS!

Just ask Andrew Hammond he watched his bank get siphoned in front of his very eyes after using an ATM machine in Soi LK Metro

@@ThailandBound oh well... anyhow with bank phone apps these days with card management facilities, can set withdrawal limits, enable/disable overseas activation all options only modifiable with 2-factor authentication if enabled, such fraud risks can be mitigated. makes things a little fiddlier each time you use your card but much better than losing huge chunks of your money.

The problem with taking deodorant & sunscreen when traveling from the U.S. is that security will confiscate the stuff over a certain amount.

In the UK as long as it's packed into your suitcase and not hand luggage you can take as much as you want

Do Thai people, girls have different ideas of what deodorant etc smells good?

On the point on drugs, I am curious whether this may change with the recent law changes regarding marijuana, which essentially decriminalises it. Smoking it is the remaining gray area, depending on whether its bothering other people or not.

0:55 if you have a multi-currency bank account capable of storing thai baht, would the 220b fee still apply? does a local thai get charged this very same fee when withdrawing from the atm?
@ThailandBound2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter what currency you use you will be charged the 220 baht there's no getting out of it

@@ThailandBound been checking. apparently the 220b fee is for accessing from foreign accounts. local thais dont pay this particular fee. if you know and trust a local, you can use money transfer service to transfer funds into your thai friend's bank account then have him/her withdraw it for you for free. alternatively, you can transfer money to yourself through moneygram or western union then collect the cash at one of their thai collection branches - no 220b fee but one would have to investigate how relatively cost effective this method is overall.
