Thanks for clarifying the bank situation. There’s so much ‘Chinese whispers’ that you have to get the info from the horses mouth and correct channels rather than false info all the time and people take it as gospel as it’s say ‘on the internet’, no different to listening to a drunk in a pub lol. 100% correct Pete regarding opening a bank account. In fact when I opened up my Bangkok bank account about 7 years ago you didn’t even need to have your passport endorsed! All done on a tourist visa!!! Easy peasey

Hey Peter, came across your channel last month and really enjoy the stories, except the tragic ones. Thank you for the content and big thanks to those who shared their stories, wether they found love or lost their life. I’m 43 and heading to Koh Samui in March 31st for my second time. I used to think that Bangkok and Pattaya is where dirty old sleazy men go for young Asian wives. This concept I thought was disgusting and a shame on both foreigners and the local Thais. But after watching more of your stories and streams and other KZbinrs, I soon realised the hardship Thai’s have lived through for decades and their need to provide a decent life for their families and themselves. Also something you said stuck in my mind, about old man coming to Asia. Would I like to spend the last years of my life rotting away or would you prefer to spend it with a beautiful young lady who would take care of you. I guess I’m more for the latter. What I’m trying to say is, my perspective has changed, I have a better understanding now. My prejudice is still there but that’s my problem, not anyone else’s. So live your life how you want to live it, as long as you’re not hurting yourself or anyone else. I love Koh Samui and would definitely travel mainland Thailand. Thanks

Peter great stories.the last one is very true about emotions and holding hands and kissing in public.I’ve been with my Thai partner for 18 years and we are both very happy together.me as a westerner show my emotions by cuddling and kissing but she won’t and if she does it’s very rare.over the years I have got used to it but the first years was very difficult for me to understand.when we are behind closed doors it’s a different matter.😊it’s just a culture thing.regards damon

Opened a bank account more than 10 years ago by going to the banks HQ. Friend who lived in BKK long term, didn't believe how easy it was - requirements are different now. I worked at the school in Sydney (SSC Balmain) where they filmed the 'Bangkok Hilton'. Some great advice from the last story about affection in public and the dropping off and picking up at the airport.

Unfortunately I was denied in both Kasikorn and Krungsri in BKK, even showed them rental contract, Kasikorn denied right away as I said I have tourist visa, Krungsri looked at my documents and said that they have new policy and they cannot open accounts for people without employment or on tourist visa. That was 2 weeks ago.

@@bamboo6044 Same here, I come to Thailand many times but stay in hotels, tried all the banks in Central Festival but they all said no to a tourist visa 😕 had to have retirement visa or condo etc. Last month I rented Condoling term and went to all the same banks with rental contract, passport but said 'cannot' again to me without retirement visa 😞

I was also told that I would not be able to open a bank account in Thailand because I was not in Thailand at the time. But I sent an email to Kasikorn's branch in the country where I live and they made it possible for me to open one without even staying or going to Thailand. The reason I needed it is because I own a condo in BK and I need an account to collect rent and pay expenses. The bank made it happen for me. Reach out to the bank and they can work things out for you. They were very helpful.

There's loads of ways. Bangkok bang is by far the easiest. I was able to open an account by having my English teaching course company sponsor me.

Peter I arrived last month and plan to stay on a long term visa. I went to Bangkok Bank to open an account and was told i needed tax returns so they could coordinate with U.S. authorties. I am a disabled vet and on full disability from the war in Vietnam. American law is if your taxable income is less that $20k a year you are not required to file income tax forms. My income that is taxable is less than $20k a year, therefore i am not required to file an income tax form yearly and haven't been required for a number of years. I want to have an account in Thailand since i plan to stay long term. I have a friend who is here on long term visa and he is introducing us to his agent that gets his long term visa. So yes as usual you are right, there is a way to open a bank account here. I placed the money i brought with me in an account at a local bank under my wife's name and is a regular account so can withdraw it whenever we like. My wiofe is Thai and we have been together 16 years so i think i can trust her :>).

Yes you need to go to your embassy and have your passport verified they will print out a letter verifying your passport for about a thousand but then most of the banks will accept this and open an account for you

Your u tuber is wrong. I opened a Thai bank account 10 years ago when I was here on holiday. Each year before I returned on holiday I transferred money to the account to keep it active. All the bank required for me to open was to see my passport (no endorsement) and a thai address with telephone number( I gave thai girlfriend address) the whole process (ATM card etc) was done in one day.

I had Australian bank account card with a access to my account thu Vietnamese ATM , withdrew an au $ dollar amount and it gave closest amoung in Dong and deducted right amount from my account. only time I used exchange was to change Dong back to Au dollars , before i left the country. used this system in Denmark in 1995 , so its not new thing.

I am not sure that I agree with the assertion that Thais don't show emotion in public. From my experience, Thais don't show affection to their partners as it is considered lewd and overtly sexual. It's also not a 'touchy' culture and there are some cultural taboos about what you can touch and how e.g. a young person cannot touch the head of an older person. On the contrary, I find Thai people, particularly females, to be very emotional and they are not shy to show it in public.
