I took a walk down Bangkok, Sukhumvit Soi 10 in the Nana/Asoke area of Bangkok, Thailand. I ended up making the short walk to the Asoke BTS and Pala Pizza.

Cool to see your walk-around Asok. I stayed at the Galleria 10 last summer for about 10 days and found some great cafes as well as TomTom’s coffee. Not to mention the never ending trips to Terminal 21 for lunch/dinner. (Great Japanese tonkatsu places there and more cool coffee shop. Thanks.

Nike shoes didn't used to be knock-offs. Nike had a contract with a manufacturer in Thailand and they made the official Nikes for export to the US. They also made tens of thousands extra shoes and sold them in Pratunam without Nike knowing about it. Nike found out and cancelled the contract.

Yes the fakes are a big problem today. I tried a pair on a few months ago. They didn't even bend. I know the originals are made in China too. But, there is a big difference in material

Hi just wondering, grab and bolt taxi still works in Bangkok and Pattaya? I am going in June. Thanks in advance!🙏🏻
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
Yes, I use Grab almost everyday. Bolt is ok, but you need to be careful with the pick up point. For what ever reason I can be at say O'Shea's Pub. Order a Grab no problem. It says pick up at O'Shea's. The same Bolt might say, ok pick up at 7/11, 100 feet away. No problem unless you didn't notice any your standing at O'Shea's and there are 100 bikes in the area

I rent a condo in Pattaya and pay $450 per month. With that stated, I struggle to keep my entire monthly expenses under $4000. I don’t understand how people do it for far less? I guess if you are eating crap food at 7/11 and drinking Leo’s while sitting on the sidewalk, you can make it work. But is that really living the dream?
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Ай бұрын
You probably have a great life for $4000. I'm with you between $3000 and $4000. But, I also took a vacation to Chaing Mai and Pattaya last month. Plus a couple of higher end shoe and apple purchases. I could easily live on $2500 to $3000. But, I worked hard all my life. I'm going to enjoy my retirement

You could live like a King in Chiang mai for half, $2000 a month. However Chiang mai doesn't have the variety of nightlife and companions like BKK and Pattaya . That plus the accommodationin in bkk makes your expenses double. Plus as the vlogger testified, the taxis when used frequently in BKK. I don't know about California but on the Gold Coast in Australia you could have a good life on US$4000 a month. It translates to about au$6000. If you pay $450 a month for rent in Pattaya you must be supporting some other person or habit which is high maintenance . It's ok if that's what you want but when people read about the cost of living in Thailand they may get the wrong idea unless they read the fine print.😉
@consulthai
@consulthai Ай бұрын
My impression about your lifestyle in BKK is basically continuing your choices as you lived back in the States. Your expenses are quite high as your Western food choices still dominate. You rightly pointed that out with the Subway menu. I and other viewers may be interested to know how much you pay for rent where and what size room? Lower Sukhumvit is a farang and tourist bubble and prices are accordingly higher. However if you're living your dream it's very personal. We all dream uniquely.

The Bangkok experience in the early 80s was absolutely amazing, so much fun, especially around the Malaysia hotel, 300baht pn . It was when Bangkok was full of culture instead of raving on about a church.

@@consulthai It just depends on what you want in life. I like to travel. Maybe 12 countries in the past 6 months. My basic rent, internet, cell in one of the best areas of Bangkok are less than $800. I like to scuba dive a few days each month. That trip is close to a $1000 if I dive three days. Sure some people are coming over to live a nice life on $2000. That's usually because they only have $2000 to spend. Other people might have a $4000 pension and a million cash. Living for $4000 a month is then very reasonable. Spend $1000 on basic bills. Play golf three times a week, dive, travel, etc.. $450 a month sounds very reasonable for a nice condo. You can't take it with you. Spend what you want and you'll still live half of it to loved ones. It's only other expats that worry about another guy supporting the sick water buffalo. Or thinking they should eat at the food court everyday. I eat about 50% Thai food because I love. I also enjoy hanging with the guys at our Irish Pub. That meal might be 400 baht. You might call that a waste. I call that enjoying life with good friends. As far as the KZbin videos telling people what to expect to pay. That depends on the person. I can't tell you what to spend. If $24,000 a year is enough to live like a king, I think that's great. I put the number at $3000. But, I'm fortunate to have the high pension and savings I don't even touch. I think most people dream of coming to Thailand and enjoying life. Golf, travel, dating, etc.. All that cost money. Basic expenses can be $500 to $1000. Rent, cell, internet. $450 is fine for a condo. I pay $600 in Bangkok. I could pay $300, but I'd rather not be 2 miles from a train. Food? That can be $500 a month for 60 baht Thai food, or $1500 for 50/50 Thai and Western food. That's $2000-$2500 right there. I easily spend another $1000 on travel. But that's me. I'm not wasting money. I'm spending $36000 a year, maybe $40,000. That life would cost $140,000 in California. To me that's a bargain. If a person only has $2000 a month to spend that's cool. But to assume a person who spends $3000, $4000 or more must be wasting money is not correct. Sure some guys like to give money away for a variety of reasons. Other guys know exactly what they are doing. Most guys with a high pension and a ton of cash saved, did a few things correct in life. Just because they moved abroad, they didn't forget how to be financially wise. I have a buddy who has an 80,000 baht condo. That's $2200. A bit more than I want to spend. But, he loves that apartment. He says it would cost $6000 in his former home Tokyo. I think that's great. Who am I (or anyone else) to say he's wasting money. Years ago my dad told me he was writing a check to the IRS tax office for $120,000. I said, that sucks. He just said, "I had a very good year" So it's all about how you look at life
