We take a trip on the special express train from the new Bang Sue Grand Station (Krung Thep Amphawa Station) in Bangkok to Chiang Mai. I show you what to expect on the train and around the new station with where to buy tickets as well as public transportation options. The cost is very affordable and it’s easy to travel by train. The trip is 3rd class carriage with fan at a price of 310 Baht.
Enjoy the video!

Traveling by train is very fun as well as inexpensive. The first half of this trip was at night but I’ve filmed it before on trips to Ayutthaya and Lopburi. If you want to see what it looks like in the day as well as how to get to those destinations here are 2 links. Hi Chris when we were there in December 2022 going to Chiang Mai we went to old station it was terrible I am glad its closed now

The old station is still open but they moved all of the long distance trains to the new station. I think 18 or so of the local trains still leave from Hua Lamphong but not many now. For me I love the new station because it’s very near my house and easy to get to with the mrt. How did you enjoy the train trip? I enjoyed it a lot. I usually drive there and I was wanting to do the train for a long time and glad I did.

Yes you can. I think there is a train that leaves around 5 or 6 pm from CM. Download the SRT timetable app. That is what I use and it gives you all of the times, seating class and costs.

Pretty nice video C hris....we did Bangkok/Chiang Mai overnight but were fortunate to get a sleeper cabin...having said that it was near impossible to sleep as the train swayed left and right most of the time....and we though we were going to de-rail any moment! LOL...Also the toilets were just a filthy.. maybe less pee on the seat I think. LOL...Thank goodness we flew back to Bangkok...Cheers bud!

Part of the adventure lol. The nice part about having the sleeper is you can move around and stretch out. 3rd class is a bit crowded. I think I got a total of 40 minutes sleep up and back. My wife says I need my beauty rest but I don’t believe her. :)

Thanks. :) I think next time I do this trip I will do the morning train so I can see more of the countryside. I also think a bit later in the year when the leaves are all back on the trees. Even with that it was a fun trip. My wife thought I was crazy to do 3rd class there and back. We did the ride to Surat Thani a few years ago that way and it was about 4,000 degrees on the train and not as much fun.

Those toilets are pretty gross. Not as bad as the ones in China, but close. On the train I took from Shenyang to Dandong the toilet was a hole in the corner of the "restroom."
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
The toilet was somewhat clean. The toilet seat just has that yellow color like it was left out in the sun. They also have a bar code to scan and report if it is “smelly”. I didn’t see anyone using it though. Bathrooms on trains (outside of Japan) can get a bit messy. The rocking of the train make some guys miss the mark. Lol

LOL, just like in Japan. Locals all masked up. Foreigners not. I spent the entire day without a mask in the Tokyo Dome and somehow am still alive. It must be a miracle.

When will there be new trains ? When will the dual tracks be open going south?
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about when the dual tracks will be open. Last time I went through it looked about 80-90% completed going south. Many of the new stations are almost built. I haven’t been on the train south of Hua Hin in a few years so I can’t say how it looks that way if you are going towards Surat Thani.

What the other classes of tickets cost?
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
Your looking at about 750 for a second class sleeper up to 1950 for 1st class private cabin. There are a few other options in between depending on upper and lower bunks and classes. If you factor in that you don’t need a hotel that night in Chiang Mai it’s a good value with that.

So is Hua Lamphong a thing of the past now?
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels Жыл бұрын
No they just have something like 11 trains a day leaving from there. Only local and commuter trains. I will be doing the Kiha 183 to Petchaburi from there on Saturday. The place is a ghost town now, most people still catch these trains from the new station since it’s easier to get to for most everyone.

@@sbeers88 I really love the building. The area around it now is pretty rough. The homeless have taken over the area by the klong and many of the businesses have closed down. I expect it to be converted into a condo within a few years. The land is worth too much money in that part of Bangkok.

It seems uncomfortable with those small hard seats, right? How about sleeping at night please?
@endlessjourneytravels
@endlessjourneytravels 8 ай бұрын
The seats are not too bad. The biggest issue is the leg room. If all 4 seats are filled you don’t have much room to stretch out. Sleeping isn’t too bad if you are against the window. I don’t have a problem with sleeping that way. I do think that the best for sleeping is getting the sleeper berth. The book up so you need to make plans ahead of time to get them.
