Regarding the question of why the Hindu population in Bangladesh has decreased from around 20% to 8.9% (a figure noted in a Harvard University study), I was curious as well and discussed it with some of my Hindu friends. They shared that the reasons are largely economic, along with social factors like the Vested Property Act. Additionally, factors like lower population growth among Hindus and higher educational attainment have played a role. While discrimination exists, as it can in any majority-minority setting, my friends feel it’s not on a level that would require international intervention. Some other geopolitical motives may be at play, as we’ve observed. Remember, the roots of India’s independence movement began here in Bengal, so we’re attuned to these dynamics.
