Those engineers of the nineteenth century and the men who went out there and built this lighthouse are the most amazing of men. Bravo.

Lighthouses (Pharos) the long time unsung wonders of human engineering.....(I'm a retired coastie (USCG), a boatswaismate .....) navigation has always been a source of admiration to me....I sing the praises to those men...

Extremely well done documentary. The very last comment, Saving others is the best of humanity is truth. Let us all encourage that motto in our children. 🙏🏻

Hard times create hard men. Get up and go to work. A simple formula lost in today's world. Brilliant video.

Absolutely brilliant doco! Those men were tough back then.

Even though everything is explained in the video, it still muffles me the genius and ideas they came up on how to build the tower

How was that massive lens put into place? Helicopter? Was the roof removed, then replaced? Did the three keepers have separate quarters? I agree it would have been interesting to have a tour of the inside so we had some idea of kitchen and bathroom facilities. Also, that stone must have been a frigid mass that kept the inside temperature quite low. Was there some sort of heating device. What about water storage? Once you start with one question, others come to mind in a steady curiosity-piqued flow.

I wonder if they knew if the dangers posed by mercury, when it was built?

I would love it if houses were built like this from solid granite to last generations instead of the disposable stuff that seems to pop up all over the place to be knocked down with changes in town planning or building styles. Just looking at the complexity of the blocks ( 0:10 13:16 ) is amazing, loads of different blocks like the space shuttle heat shield and done without CNC, CAD or electronic calculators.

I would like to see modern offshore structures stand up to the elements as these lighthouses have done all these years. Royal sovereign lighthouse in the English Channel did not last long.

Is there no interior footage available? Seems odd to spend that much time on a subject with virtually no close footage inside or out.

Awesome video. Thanks! One question tho, why there’s no pics or video from lighthouse itself? Only drone footage. Is it closed? I understand that is automated from 1998 but there was no option for that video purpose to open it for a quick look inside? Thanks!

Just wondering what engineers in 23rd century will think about accomplishments of today, like mega dams and cities.

That annoying, distracting, poor excuse for background "music" fully ruined the video. Would have been so much better without it. A common problem on KZbin.

The fake astonishment voice from the narrator and host dragged down what otherwise would have been a fine video.
