It is more likely that the looted gold was melted into Reichbank bars and later on traded in neutral Switzerland for much needed hard currency. All the gold brought to that Berlin pawnshop, including dental gold, were eventually melted into gold bars and traded for foreign hard currency such the British pound or the US dollar.
