These tunnel boring machines are a huge advancement. The old method of Martin chewing through the rock has taken it's toll.😢

I have worked with TBMs and Road headers most of my life and just hate the way the media portray this and other industries. I can tell you it's more dangerous to cross the road or drive into work. The last project I worked on had eight TBMs, they now have 10 for the next phase.

Back in the 70s I worked in the tunnels in Milton Keynes for kilroe ,Miller Buckley ,kinear moody , streeters, in these big TBMS it's like sitting in your front room turning knobs, we were up to our ankles in Water ,week of days week of nights in the pub we spent the sub, the craic was great, no health and safety, I was 18 and still could do it today

This is not some kind new advance tunneling method. The only difference is the diameter of the bore and the geology the machines are designed to bore through. I had the privilege of seeing one of the machines up close more then 40 years ago. It was a 7m steerable hard rock boring machine use to tunnel two 7.5 mile tunnels for the Red Line of the Washington DC Metro.

Maybe I missed something. Where are they routing the huge amount of sewage to...the Atlantic ocean? Are they going to treat the sewage or are they just going to dump it in the Atlantic?
@filledmug2 жыл бұрын
Sadly, most of sewage water is being dumped without any treatment cause it's cheaper that way.
@Timothy-lb2vr11 ай бұрын
More sadly, fish will eat any organic effluent we dump in the oceans of our world. There are sea fish living and thriving in the Mariana’s trench at a depth of 35,000 ft, that’s about 7.5 miles below the surface of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Guam.
@jameswest481911 ай бұрын
@@Timothy-lb2vr I don't know about the Trench but I have witnessed some pretty crappy situations in places like Hawaii and Isla Mujeres, Mexico. The one in Mexico was amazing because a popular beach had a huge sign warning people not to go into the water because of the sewage discharge from a great big pipe running right down the beach. I don't speak much Spanish, but I knew enough to understand the message...that didn't stop the fishermen and swimmers, though. about a half a mile down the coast, I found an interesting beach with some curious rocks covering the beautiful white sand and I walked down to the water. I will never forget the scene I encountered. Two lovers, scantily clad, laying together in-between gobs of toilet paper and human turds littering the beach. It was one of those un-seeable things you sometimes see in life.
