I had £20 credit from the Playstation Stars app that bascially cut the game's price in half and I've had a generally good time with all of DontNod's stuff so I had no real hesitations with picking it up.
@lotheravanti429510 ай бұрын
I used to love their games, then they fell off a progressive cliff with the 2nd installment of Life is Strange onwards(LOVED the first). I just couldn't play their stuff anymore. This one also looks to be the same. Worse, it seems to have Vampyr's system of "you want to be powerful? do evil things". I don't like a game punishing me for playing as morally good. Hard pass. DontNod died a long time ago.

Honestly, whoever is running Focus Home deserves some credit for their contribution to gaming. They have quite an eclectic, and frankly risky mix of games in their catalogue. In a world full of Ubisoft's and Activision's, you need a Focus Home Interactive, ya know?

Not only that, but they somehow manage to pull everything off AT LEAST to a serviceable/enjoyable level as well. So far I'ver only played Vampyr, but the almos Soulslike action combat is actually enjoyable, given the game's heavy focus on storytelling and moral choices. Combat doesn't feel tacked-on, but rather a core function/feature as well (even if somewhat lacking). On another note, the story and gameplay feel, with the atmosphere and moral dilemmas do not suffer at all due to the inclusion of a faster, deadlier and more fleshed-out combat than most story-driven games, and the looting, upgrader and RPG systems don'T feel tacked-on either, but rather a part of the game itself. That's a rare sight in the genre of the story-driven adventure games (which Dontnod is going for). None of its core features (RPG, combat, story, atmosphere, choices) fall behind/gets overshadowed/made redundant because of the others. Of course the game is not perfect, but it's far from a botched attempt.

Keep up the great work pal. I started playing Banishers yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised early on when the game started and this continued to grow. I knew it was AA and that's fine, generally these games take far more risks in concept and gameplay. What really helps sell this game is the excellent level of voice work. No offence but British accents in games of older years are superior. The northern accents, the Scots accent add so much character. They feels like they intended to voice the roles of the characters they portray. This really sells the games time frame and grim design. BG3 did the same thing. Throw in Eastern European and British voice work and these games shine. I was playing the rebirth Demo last week and right away the American accent killed it for me...I switched to Japanese... Banishers feels like a really good game. It has soul, character and mystery... Looking forward to throwing more time at it .

I think I have a hard time, in general, looking at an RPG in an IP I'm not familiar with (or is new) and feeling like it's worth diving into. If it's not presenting unique gameplay that looks really compelling, I just see a title that has a jumble of RPG words and a lot of dialogue I'm not invested in. So I end up sticking with franchises and sequels that I do know something about even when I end up with a subpar experience.

Stellar review, as ever. I think it's rad that these days we have more access to multiple creative venues. That people want to tell and make stories, and where in the beginning all we could do was talk by the fire. Then only the rich and learned could write books, then only rich people could make movies, now regular people can make movies. Games used to be super inaccessible because we needed to both have access to computers and know assembly to do anything, but now that these types of compelling stories can be turned into games, I think it's wonderful. This could have been another Turn of the Screw that I might not have known about. Active engaging narratives, I'm here for it.

@@ACGreviews ok, it’s never left me to play list and complete next to greedfall. I just keep bumping them down for other games. I just need to set time to really get deep into the story.

Coincidentally I’ve just started playing Elex 2 and it’s so enjoyable. It’s charming as heck and so refreshing. Almost like a kind of antidote to a lot of modern games. It’s Breath Of The Wild if Link wasn’t a cartoon twink and the countryside and all of the graphics were realistic and had 216 times the detail😁 So it’s super cool to see they’re evolving and I’d love to play anything from this studio. Big fan so far.

Honestly. I really like their games. True they are AA titles and have a bit of euro jank but I’m a fan

thanks for the review , Looks great but coming from just completing Remnant 2 , my expectations are unrealistic for Banishers to be on the same level

The lip syncing is improved so much from vampyr. Game is pretty good and I'm glad that studio like Focus is on right step, hopefully other ones will make small steps forward instead of backwards. Great video as always, keep up good work 👍

It's nice to see a game advertised that isn't co-op, live service or survival. I've had too much of that crap shoved in my face recently so I'll keep an eye on this.

I actually loved the combat in vampyr I never understood the hate. I knew this game would be interesting my only worry was the combat but I’m gonna go for it
