Banjo-Kazooie Remastered | TRAILER

Welcome to the offical launch of the 'Project Dream' on KZbin. Project Dream is about bringing back the Nintendo 64 games Banjo-Kazooie & Banjo-Tooie back to life through a series of nostalgic cinematic trailers.
As a huge Banjo fan I wanted to see what a remastered version of the original 1998 game could look like. I set out to produce a trailer that would capture the attention and ignite a little bit of nostalgia that Banjo-Kazooie brought to all of us. This was done using the original N64 geometry with updated textures, environments & scenery to create a more immersive experience that modern game engines can do.

The title of the channel 'Project Dream' comes from Dream: Land of Giants (Codenamed "Project Dream"). It was an unreleased RPG video game that was originally in development for the Super NES but was moved to the Nintendo 64. The game's team spent around 16 months developing the game, after which it was redeveloped into what is now Banjo-Kazooie.

For a fan trailer, this is actually pretty well made. It's set up like it's something that would actually have been shown off at a E3 presentation.

It doesn't look like a real remake/remaster at all though. This yells "fan made in Unreal" to me, so if it's a real dev team, I'm kind of confused. The art styles don't work like that for remakes. You see this with a lot of fan made stuff of 90s nostalgia. They'll make the game to scale, but add in high detailed grass and water (from a stock add on pack usually). I'm not a fan of the game really, despite playing it as a kid. But if they did remake it, it would be more like that Crash remake I bet. Same game just more subtle changes. But I don't follow this kind of news, so I could be wrong! Just a weird thing that popped up in my recommended for some reason

I first played the game back in 1998, I have memories of older than my memories of the Pokemon Squirrel. Someone told my Squirrel looks like a blue turtle, and since i had not seen Squirtle, I pictured a blue version of the giant turtle from Bubblegoop Swamp! A couple fo years ago, I got the game again and 100%ed it at long last!!!! SO happy!!! When the theme music in this video started....ouch my heart indeed!

I love that you didn't go super over the top with the polish or production. It just looks like a super clean smooth version of the original. It's not all maxed out Unreal engine lighting and particle effects and such. Way to truly capture the spirit of the game.

First off: Damn this trailer really makes we wish a Remake of Kazooie and Tooie would happen already. maybe unpopular opinion - but I think part of BK and BT's charm is the fact that the graphics aren't great. In a way, they feel stylized to the genre. Hyper realistic stuff like this is INCREDIBLE and big props to the creator for sure, just not my cup of tea.

High fidelity graphics and heavily stylized graphics aren't mutually exclusive. Nothing against this trailer, as you said they did a great job, but it's definitely possible to modernize the graphics while keeping the style much more faithful. This video is only one way of approaching a Banjo-Kazooie remake, not a bad way, but certainly not the only possible way.

Hmm. This does look really nice, but I find the new geometry really jarring. Looking at the majority of the environment, what you've done is keep the old 3D models, and just do some really nice texture work, to an otherwise fairly low poly model. But then you look at the new assets, mostly foliage, and you realise that those assets are comparatively really high poly. You either remodel everything, or you have to keep the low poly theme consistent throughout, because this clashes.
