While we are observing spiral mountain's history, let's point out a continuity error. In tooie grunty's lair one eye that is still lite is on the left, where. Nuts a bolt's taking place in the future is on the right.

There's multiple inconsistencies with it. The house is it's own mess, with the entire kitchen and chimney being on the wrong side, and glitching in reveals even more wrong like the chair placement, not to mention the pathways outside the main map that otherwise make no sense as the duo have explored them since Tooie yet that was supposedly there all along. Granted, the Isle O' Hags isn't even on the same island as Spiral Mountain, but at least we know you can drill there.

I do actually appreciate the few Nuts and Bolts references in the Smash stage. Those being the design of Banjo’s house and the mountain itself with it being mountain like than how it was in any of the games before. My only complaints is that I wish the flying vegetables were still there. Oh well. The stage itself is insanely detailed. More than it should be honestly. It’s the best.

Yeah. I love how Spiral Mountain is more or less what was in the first game Banjo-Kazooie with some Banjo-Tooie and Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts bits and pieces sprinkled in(I bet that's what happened to Spiral Mountain after Banjo and Kazooie got the deeds to it, they restored it to it's original glory). ❤ And I agree with you on the floating veggies. I miss those guys. Certainly better than the mooks in Banjo-Tooie.

It is Canon, saying that is like saying Breath of Wild Link is not Canon because Ultimate have Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword Stages, yet Link doesn't belong to any of these two games. They just used Banjo 1's Spiral Mountain because it's more recognizable, but there's still some stuff from Tooie in there, see the cavern on top of the waterfall, that only exists in Tooie, but it's represented in Ultimate too, i just wish they would have represented the Digger Tunnel Entrance too, it would've been so cool!

Grunty's Revenge looks far better than it has any reason to. It's not a great game by any means but it's definitely not as bad as a handheld N64 game could be. It's a shame Nintendo made no effort to hold onto the IP, because BK games on the DS and 3DS could've been fantastic.

Realistically, it's because 3D platformers had fallen out of favor. Sometimes this genre was called "collectathon" and when K&B came out, that label was shorthand for "poorly designed shovelware with little player motivation". The entire genre had a reputation for being unfun and outdated. People wanted the dose of nostalgia but wouldn't have tolerated spending money for game design that was 2 console generations old. At the time, releasing a game in the same style as the first 2 would have ensured that Rare never released another game. People just couldn't be bothered to wander around a static level looking for 1000 shiny things. Imagine if they tried to sell us Tic-Tac-Toe for $60 a piece... that was basically the attitude at the time.
