Fishing for multiple species (Especially difficult ones like carp) will dramatically improve all sorts of different fishing skills. This also shows a true love for fishing. I've never been able to understand people who love sport fishing for bass or catfish but turn their nose up at carp. Don't get me wrong, I love bass fishing, but it is interesting that every time I carp fish I end up doing it on my own. Great video man, keep em coming!

Such an underappreciated fish. I started fishing them casually about 10 years ago, had some fun. Got really into it about 3-4 seasons ago, and have never looked back. Caught 5,000 pounds last year. Just over 3,700 pounds so far this year. If the fall bite around here is as good as last year's was, I may hit three tons. When they are at peak bite, you get a workout. Double after Double. Lots of running around. Hard-fighting fish. I"m in Southern Wisconsin. The lakes I fish give an average of 10-11LB per fish. I catch 5-10 20+ pounders each season. With I lived in a place where 20+, and even 30+ were more common. 🙂 If you fish Carp a lot, and want to catch more of them, invest in a couple of Spod Bombs. It's a plastic container, looks like a bomb, and you attach to a heavy casting line, and fill it up with Corn or some other kind of chum. Cast it out, and you can drop a nice pile of delicious chum RIGHT where you plan to set your hookbaits. Ups my catch substantially, especially in the Summer when the bite slacks off quite a bit.

I love how you have such a clear understanding of what parts of fishing make you happy. You have a stronger sense of self than a lot of people in the world today. I have a clinical masters in counseling and psychology, and it makes smile when I see people like you out there who have a very practical and sustainable approach to finding happiness. Keep doing what you love, it will serve you well.

Peelindrag If you're ever in Grand Rapids I have a little lake at my house. You can catch all the 20+ carp you want in my backyard. There are also bass, panfish, catfish etc. There are also a bunch of other lakes, ponds, and gravel pits right down the street.

When I was a kid we made and used a yellow corn meal and flour dough for bait. We fished a river with medium high current and slow moving brook about 5 to eight feet deep that lead to the river. We nailed some huge carp every time out. Especially early evening or after dark.

I like to go super light with carp, 6 or 8 pound test line! As long as you set your drag a little looser they are a blast to reel in! Especially on that lighter line!

More carp fishing please!. Do you ever have issues with sweet corn staying on the hair? I usually use boiled field corn that's been soaked in some sort of flavor additive like vanilla or banana flavored vodka. Field corn is a bit tougher and stays on the hair well.
@peelindrag113
@peelindrag113 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I've definitely noticed it's much softer. I usually use scented corn from trilogy carp baits, but I ran out of what I had from them and just haven't gotten around to getting more. When I'm making short casts I can usually keep the sweet corn on though. I'll be doing more carp vids for sure!

With the bolt rig shown here, do you have your free-spool (bait feeder) open? or are you keeping your bail closed so that when they grab there's full resistance?
@peelindrag113

I have my bail closed and drag set loose enough for them to pull line without moving the rod then tighten the drag once I get to the rod. I should definitely invest in a baitrunner reel!

I just hold them in the net and attach the scale to the net. You just have to weigh the net separate and take that out of the total weight

This is exactly the type of rig I’ve been looking for. As much as people say carp rigs are simple (which I sort of agree), the majority of them don’t seem so simple, in terms of how much hardware is required. Sleeves, special looking weight, stoppers, quick change rings / swivel, sometimes method feeders, etc... I believe that less is better. Keep it simple. Btw, where did you get your 2oz from or what is it called?
