Please could you do a short video on how to release oarse fish safely? You reach a wide audience and i've seen people lobbing fish back into the pools, releasing softly by letting fish swim out of their hands, and small swings into the water.

I was using pedigree chum mixers 40yrs ago, before it became popular. A friend and I were fishing a lake near Oulton park where there was a carp fishing match. I was having a fish a chuck. Nobody else was catching, but I emptied the place. Two guys fishing the match came over and I gave them some of my bait, and they caught. I have to admit, I stole the idea from a friend who was using cat buiscuits, I only had dogs, so thought I would try the dog biscuits. At the time the chum mixers were chum mixers with gravy. I soaked the mixers in warm water to make them spongy, so it stayed on the hook, but the hook pulled straight out on the strike. I was fishing 8 to 12 feet from the bank ( actually it was a wall, about 3-4 feet deep.) It was the best day carp fishing I’ve ever had.

I've had good results with lupin seeds, which I understand are popular with French carp anglers. I prepare them much like other particles, 48-hour soak, followed by 40 minutes in a pressure cooker. You can mount two or three on a hair rig, but I've found just a single seed, hair-rigged, works best for me, regularly catching me commons to 17lb. on my local water.

I started carp fishing in 2001 when i was 18 . My rigs were very simple and mainly used natural or small baits . Now i have all the latest gear and baits but sometimes you can't beat using a float and a worm for bait 😂

Great video showing the different kinds of bait its a minefield out their . However would like to just run back to spam i use it a lot on my local waters and have great success with meat screws they hold the bait well had a lot less falling off since using them they come in metal or plastic/nylon . Middy also do a range of pre tied hook to nylon with meat screws . Though i prefer to tie my own using the plastic screw as the point on the metal variety is a bit sharp and in my opinion could damage a fish if digs in while playing it

Whole corn works like a charm on carp and catfish - my buddies and I used to use this long ago and would catch tons of fish with this technique. Only thing is that your throw a whole can of corn out at near sunset and come back at the next sunrise and start reeling them in using a single piece of corn on the bottom on a number 6 or 8 hook - I liked the number 8 hook the best - yeah! really does work well

I am 55 years old, and I learned to fish with bamboo rods and how to float the cork. The best lures are the ones that are homemade. I use a lot of corn and bait. Grated cheese, honey, vanilla, strawberry syrup, banana, cherry, anise. This is in the summer. In winter I use worms, maggots, fish kibble and anchovy oil. The boiles? I'll leave them to those who don't know how to fish. 😅 Because the real fisherman must also know how to make bait

Also worth noting. The use of tiger nuts are banned on many waters because people dont know how to prepare them correctly so just double check with where ever you are going before you do use them and learn how to prepare them properly. I think you had to boil them and leave them soaking in water for a long time to get them safe for the carp to eat.

I agree that bread is the best bait. It's easily available everywhere, it's cheap as chips, I pay 75p for a large, thick sliced loaf. Best of all, carp and other fish all love it! It can be fished on the bottom or on the surface! I've even caught perch on bread. Best all round bait IMHO.

Carl, I've got a question you may be able to answer. Ok, Without being too graphic, we as humans eat sweetcorn, and it passes through our bodies undigested, it comes out whole, ok. So, as we know, fish love sweetcorn and we catch them on it all the time. My question is, do they digest it and break it up inside their bodies? I can't imagine they would be physically able to pass a whole grain so I'm thinking their stomachs contain acids which digest it/break it up. Would you agree with this?
