Titan went under because the people who operated in on Titan did not come from the electrical trade. They simply found a qualifier to hold the license. If you’re not born in the trade with a couple of decades of experience, you have zero idea on what it takes to manage land labor, and capital. do you have no idea what a craftsman is. You have no idea how working men think and operate. In addition to that, running a bona fide electrical companies extremely expensive and there are tremendous risks to take. Going forward it will be the small shops that reign. More big companies that install solar will be exiting as well. They’re overhead is just astronomical and they cannot compete with the small shops. The big companies will attempt to, however, which will only expedite their exit. If you’re looking for solar as a solution for your home or business, don’t speak to a sales person, speak to the contractor.

My solar panel system was installed by Titan Solar. I've always been very unhappy with my decision to go with Titan Solar. First, they promised my system would be installed within 30 days. It was not. I think it was installed approximately 6 months after I signed the contract. I was very upset about this. Then, they ruined my downspout and french drain system as they installed the system. After that, I've generally been dissatisfied with the performance of the solar panels and the amount of money they promised I would save. Lastly, their customer service department is basically non-existent. There's nobody that can help with any of these problems as you run into them. I've always felt like I made a HUGE mistake going with this company.

I am in the same situation as you, trying to figure out what steps to take now. My system was supposed to cover 100% of my energy usage, I even added extra panels to ensure it would. Now I am left with a solar loan and a power bill that didn't really change. Titan Solar's only solution for me was that they could not guarantee the performance of the panels.

I saw this coming for a while. There were too many hands in the glove as the Thunderbirds song said. And too many fingers on the trigger. I never wanted grid tie because it would not make sense in the long term. I have “ free at night “ plan in Texas now but don’t expect it to be available long term. As grid scale batteries are installed along with the massive solar farms, there will be ,not just peaker plants, baseload plants that become obsolete. These plants have to run close to capacity and can’t ramp up and down rapidly so they need dump loads at night. The best strategy is as Joe mentioned toward the last . A DIY ,paid for with cash ,self-consumption,small system that can be scaled up as you have more to invest. Another advantage of this is its portability if you decide to move to another house.

@@d.pollard5962 I personally would do 2 Solaredge 7.6 inverters. But Sol Ark is a good option. Emphase just loses it’s efficiency in high heat as will everything else solar included. With optimization you start at 99 plus % then you can keep it out of the heat. Cooler anything works better, no matter what it is. Micros in the hottest part, the roof is dumb. Plus you lose 6-9% of the power in high heat conditions with mirco inverters.

I thank God that there was a report just after install in 2016 showing all of the damage. Nobody from Titan followed up. And I didn’t even know about it until I had a major roof leak 2 years ago. Holes, black mold, roof exposed etc. Thank Hod for that report, Sunrun took care of replacing my roof. Now I am dealing with my system not working since beginning of May, an inverter issue that needs to be replaced! I’m still waiting for Sunrun to come out on July 1st! Just a horrible experience!

Many solar installers are going bankrupt. The NEM3 metering may be an issue, but in general a lot of these solar companies are not well run. This is not a new problem. As an example, I cite Petersen-Dean, previously one of the largest installers. They went bankrupt in 2019/2020 before NEM3 existed so that was not the issue. And in bankruptcy P-D stranded hundreds of customers, installers, and anyone in their sales channels. We have Tesla solar, which we love and has largely eliminated our annual electric bill. But we are concerned about their long-term commitment given their financial situation.

I was promised a system that would cover my monthly kWh usage and was told I would not have an electric bill over $20-$50 a month if that. They never walked me through how to do things, connect/reconnect the battery, or check how things were working. One day, they just said it's turned on. Then, in June, my system started failing, and since then, it has had trouble staying connected. Sometimes, the air conditioning works, and sometimes (usually), it doesn't. I now have bills from PGE that reflect all these outages. I feel completely abandoned. I have a huge loan for panels and a system that works intermittently, so I don't get the benefits of a fully functional solar system.

I can understand the utility charging you a "storage fee". Basically you're using the grid as a battery. With pure 1:1 you're getting that service essentially for free so I can understand the argument from the utility that they have costs associated with that storage. If it was like 1.2-1.3 : 1 that would seem more reasonable as effectively a "battery lease cost" from the utility. It's the price you pay to avoid the cost of installing your own battery. 4:1 is highway robbery. For a state that claims it's green (which is BS) CA is screwing it up for everyone

Titan Solar changed the industry for every solar company across the country. Titan operated in more states than any utility company and solar company in the US. Titan also operated differently than your traditional business that i won’t say on here for their privacy. Just know Titan wasn’t publicly traded also each warehouse is not the same for a reason.

The problem with that is when the panels aren’t functioning properly you will end up paying more on your electricity bill while still paying your solar bill. Our panels have been inefficient for over a month. I called titan and they were supposed to send someone out to get them up and running again like they usually do when this happens, but no one has come out yet. So we’re paying a full electric bill as if we didn’t even have solar panels plus our solar bill.

@@nicolet9215 Yes, with a lease that is one of the downsides. The system Titan installed is an add-on to a Tesla (Solar City) system installed 11 years ago. That is on a lease and there hasn't been a single hiccup in all that time. Hoping the Titan system holds up as well.

Titan Solar Power installed panels on my new build in late 2021. They admitted to breaking roofing tiles and came back to replace them. The home inspection revealed caulking on tiles via drone images. It took six months of back and forth communications to get that resolved. Now this bankruptcy has happened! Solar Edge Monitoring sent an email today notifying me about the bankruptcy, and offering warranty registration since they are the company monitoring the panels since the beginning. I certainly didn't see this coming.

I'm sure like most big companies, the executives did everything they could to keep the company afloat like cutting back on their salaries and compensation. I'm sure they were solar enthusiasts who saw the company as more than just a vehicle to become rich. I'm sure they were heartbroken thinking about all the customers they were forced to abandon. Oh well, I feel sorry for them but I'm sure they'l figure out another scheme to help customers. Maybe they can form another company to take over the warranties for a small monthly fee. I'm sure they will manage that cash flow well so that when equipment starts failing down the road, they will be able keep their promise and not just declare bankruptcy again. As you can tell, I have faith that executives are good people who put their customers and employees first.

I have a 20kw/52 panel ground mount/32kwh battery system that was installed in 2022, but due to issues with the fact that the installers didn't install everything correctly, it wasn't turned on until a year later. But they reported that the system was installed to the financing company and was being billed. Titan did send reimbursement check, only after I raised holy hell. It failed 3 inspections until they got everything installed correctly. I tried to be amiable during the install. I wanted the panels installed at 30 degrees, but they installed them at 20. My power consumption is in the winter. After fighting back and forth, they finally sent a team last October to correct. They kept insisting that it didn't need to be 30. But the contract was 30 and I held them to it. The team broke one of the feeders going back to the inverters (200 ft) and didn't report it. I didn't notice the system was operating at 50% until almost a month later. The broken feeder wasn't known at the time. They sent someone out again as said it was a micro-inverter that had to be ordered. It wasn't until the sent a 4th team in last January that they discovered that the issue was the broken feeder. They found 6 splices in the wire. When the October crew tried to fix it, they only pulled the new wire half way and figured they were done and left. EVERY SINGLE TIME I HAD TO CONTACT THEM FOR ISSUES. And each an every time they tried to make it seem like it was me. I have all the emails. I asked them multiple times how it is I, the customer, has to contact them when there is an issue and why I have to fight so f'ing hard to get them to fix it. Anyway, this only scratches the surface of the issues I've had with Titan. I'm just glad they FINALLY got most of the issues taken care of before they closed. I would never touch the system because of warranty. I only found out about the closure when I found that one of my inverters stopped working last week. I've installed a number of remote solar sites myself. I didn't want to do such a large system myself. But now what?

I couldn't understand why a power provider would support competition. Every solar install is a nail in their coffin. Inefficiency, incompetent management is no threat when you have a monopoly, e.g., govt. could tax 100% and still need to borrow. Is there a tariff on solar panels? Govt. has made it illegal to capture rain, grow food. Why do we allow it to exist.

Think government direct involvement is a disincentive. If solar so great, it should be market driven. Mfg makes is desirable for consumption. Like any other product, if the price is good and consumer sees value, then it will flourish. As much as solar has advanced, it just isn't competitive to be value for homeowner.

Solar was an outstanding option. Economical and environmentally friendly. But we of course now, as always in the US have this multi-headed hydra of middlemen, all taking a cut but for no discernible value to the actual customer. The other problem is Americans need to return to the idea of paying for goods and services in full at the time of receipt. That would cut out the biggest siphon of money; the banks. I do like your channel though as your explanations are concise and informative.

Pretty much a long explanation for greed. Greed! It’s just that sample. The power companies tell us the grid is suffering and whenever you try to offset it, they don’t want you to because they want to use that excuse for raising rates and use political figures to lie to public about clean energies. There is absolutely zero reason a person shouldn’t get paid the same amount of credits that you pay for from an electric company. You’re lessening the resources they need and the infrastructure to have that power put back on the grid from solar is already there and paid for from the monthly service that you have to pay regardless of the amount of credits you were given.
