The oil cooler will retrofit right onto an 01-16 without much issue at all. you need a new elbow, gasket, o-rings and a couple new/longer bolts to put it on your older truck. LML's may need to trim the exhaust manifold heat shield and casted mount on the exhaust manifold. ive been running this 2020 cooler on my 01 with additional other coolers and radiators since last summer. It makes a hell of a difference as long as the cooling capacity of your truck can support the additional heat it adds to it.

Figured I would try to find you an oversized filter, so being an AMSOIL dealer, I looked up the part number and went to the catalog chart. Your smaller filter is the same filter a 5.7 hemi uses. AMSOIL part# EAO11. That’s what my truck uses. Only way to get more filter is to go with a remote mount kit. With what your doing, I suggest one of the kits for class 8 truck engines. Plenty of flow, more than enough filter media, and even more surface area to bleed off heat. Part numbers bmk23, bk299, eabp90, and eao26. The eao26 is the full flow filter and is 3 inches taller than the delco filter. The eabp90 bypass filter will keep the soot out of the oil. Hope this helps.

Not a fan of these bypass filters myself...Obviously, one would hope that no one would ever run a filter to the point its that blocked...however, these things do and can happen...but if it was me, and my filter was choked solid to the point I had low oil pressure, I would much rather have low oil pressure for a few seconds with my Oil Pressure light on the dash so I know to stop...than a filter that when it gets to restrictive, just bypasses oil, stopping the oil pressure light coming on, and just happily pumping god knows what contaminated oil around the motor....which based on the fact they hadn't changed the filter thus far....would probably continue to go on and on for a long time! My two cents anyway.... I mean moral of the story , change your oil filter regularly so none of this becomes a problem! Thanks as always Gale.

With cooler oil it should break down more slowly from heat producing less particulates. However if you’re going to hold it at 6000 rpm, a higher flowing filter will likely be essential.
@doolittlegeorge4 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the filter is to filter the oil. The purpose of the cooler is to cool the oil. I imagine using synthetic oil makes a huge difference insofar as not having impurities to begin with and as is pointed out a dramatic improvement in "flow control" obviates the need for a huge oil filter. Be interesting to cut open the actual filters themselves to see if there has been a materials change. Looks like the 2020 new as stock and as is is the way to go. If great aftermarket options exist even better.

@justanotherguy96644 жыл бұрын
Anti-drain, if fitted, is in the "top" of an oil filter (when viewed with filter standing open-side-up). Bypass is in the bottom, allows the whole filter cartridge to move within the filter allowing (dirty) oil flow if filter is blocked. The pre-2020 housings also have a bypass valve built in.

Where you stand on Amsoil bypass filtering?
@andrewsherwood23384 жыл бұрын
I was just going to ask this very thing. I have a 2011 LML Duramax with the Amsoil twin filter remote bypass setup. I really think its screams quality. I have used Amsoil since 1986 and have never been able to blow up any engine I have ever owned. Lawnmowers. dirt bikes, boats, cars and trucks I use Amsoil. I noticed one of the findings in the Banks oil change to Amsoil was a temperature drop and a pressure increase. With the added external plumbing, T adapter twin filter mount and two huge oil filters all away from the heat of the engine would cool the oil substantially. Of course I have no data monster to verify my claim but it seems self evident after watching the next few videos.

How much sludge and unfiltered air do you plan to pass through that oil filter. A proper synthetic oil, oil cooler, oil change interval combined with good air filtration and keeping all duct work and vaccum hoses leak free should be more than enough. Increased volume of filter media or can size does nothing to increase the life of the engine. In a full flow filter flow is the most important factor. The only time more surface area makes sense on a modern design is if you plan to do depth or bypass filtration. Just like your diff cover testing proved more is not always better! I do agree though that a mechanical bypass built into the oil filter housing and or oil pump housing is a good idea. If they eliminated it from the filter adapter in 2020 did they add one some place else like to the oil pump, timing cover, or some other place? I will say this for every person like me that likes them you have people that hate them. Look at all the people that build engines and either shim them to raise bypass or they eliminate the bypass claiming they often fail and stick open etc... I have never had that happen but I do not operate my engine and oil in such a way as to produce a lot of varnish/lacquer/sludge.
