That's misinformed. Some of the alley in Gion District are privately owned, and many tourists broke into those place to take photos of Geisha or some others. The "BAN" is actually for declaring it's unlawful to doing that. You are still free to do street photograph in Gion or any part of Kyoto! (I did it in 2019/11 and totally ok!)

Yes I forgot to add that in the description (I mentioned it in the video though) about the private streets. Of course you can still do street photography in kyoto :)

FYI, when eating sushi, don't dip the rice into the soy sauce. You're supposed to put just a little on the ingredient side and not the rice. The rice has already been seasoned and applying soy sauce will cause the rice to crumble. If you can't flip your sushi over to apply soy sauce, we use a slice of ginger to apply soy sauce to the fish side.

How do you like the 16mm? I've been trying not to buy it, because i already have the 18mmf2.
@SamuelStreetlife5 жыл бұрын
@@aris-4584 Danke Aris! :)

Most of the "geisha" are Chinese (and Japanese) tourists who hire a kimono and get their makeup done for the day. It's very nice and fun, but if you do manage to see a real geisha, maybe do the cool thing and don't hassle her for a photo. Take a picture with your eyes, and move on.

Photographers are just getting very rude nowadays. They prowl the streets taking potshots from animals to humans. And they call this art. Actors and actresses who are hounded by paparazzis I can say as price for fame. But for plain individuals whose photos are taken just to assuage the ego of photographers is plain voyeurism. It’s an intrusion to privacy which is a criminal offense. New York and other cities who care should emulate Kyoto, Japan and ban street photography. I think it’s about time federal government should study the effect of photography on the privacy of individuals. Like guns, cameras should be licensed and regulated.
@_tonygaeta4 жыл бұрын
genghis2510 KZbin commenters are just getting very rude nowadays. They prowl the comment section taking potshots from inarticulate gibberish to pure trolling. And they call this sound reasoning. You lost everybody when you invoked actors, actresses, and paparazzi. You use big words, but I don’t think you know what voyeurism truly is. To speak of the egos of the many you’ve generalized speaks volumes of your ego. Perhaps KZbin comments should be regulated, or does that sound just as ignorant as your proposition?
@genghis25104 жыл бұрын
KZbin comments are regulated. Uploaders even have the option to turn comments off. FYI. And you should go for originality. In some cases, generalization is used to drive certain issues. But to singly accuse an individual whom you do not know he does not know about something is much worse. It’s pathetic. It only rebounds and speaks about yourself. In some individuals logic may not suffice. I guess the only way to prove our points is to ask people on the streets and for you to hear (or us) what they say.
@SamuelStreetlife4 жыл бұрын
@@genghis2510 The way Ulysses and I photograph is very non confrontational and people always smile when they see me. The very few times I got asked what I do with a serious face was in germany and people always listened to my reasoning and supporting it at the end. You don't see the bigger picture. All you concentrate on is the act of taking a picture of a stranger. Not the "why" (or maybe you never heard our "why?"). We do this to document public life because it is important to have a record of it. If you limit or regulate who is allowed to take pictures on the street then you won't have a collective record but a very subjective and curated view of the world. One thing I personally don't like and where we can probably agree is that some street photographers are very pushy and papparazi-like and there are definitely lots of them who do it for the likes on instagram... That is not what street photography should be about, but I know not everyone shares this view.
