the thing about horses in this game is, the faster your horse is, the longer it takes for it to reach max speed, and when you stop completely on a noble mount, you're giving the enemy a huge speed advantage. also ....steppe bandits are definitely not using sumpter horses, their parties move on the map almost at the same speed as caravans, meaning if they have horses they must be mounts, they might have some sumpter horses in inventory though hence why they drop them.

I personally found out that in Khuzait tournaments when you get mounted glave fight, its actually better to go head on with the enemy and do a thrust as its faster than a swing obviously. You will need two good thrust hits landed, but you will more likely to win if you just thrust.

Steppe Bandits ride Steppe Horses. They're not high tier, they might be the cheapest of the basic mounts (don't remember if that or the midland palfrey is cheaper), but they have decent speed and good maneuverability in exchange for terrible hp and charge damage. And since the game tracks momentum instead of just speed, every time you slow down to get an easier shot and the enemy continues trying to close to melee they're going to get a lot closer to you. Mix that with some basic flanking, and it's easy for one rider to get within spear reach while you focus in on a different group. Also I think most of your bowshots that go off target happen because you lose patience and release before you finish drawing; the reticle seemed like it was still getting smaller rapidly.

i did this slightly diffrent on a playthrough! i allowed myself to retreat and return to the match but only if I road off the red and had enough bundles ov javlins/arrows to do a full refill (1 bundle for one bundle which I threw away when the battle was over). i did take prisoners. animals, goods since I was trying to max out 330 on all my skills by end game. i kept the looters to a minimum (think 45 with 45 'mount' horses, 20 mules gave me 7.1 speed) this let me be mobile and trade goods getting trade up to 330 before I finished. fun to see others obsessed with this game. wonder if it will ever be finished?

i remember there was a player on pendor that usually played solo, when it was possible to acess the inventory he had a bunch of reserve arrows and 3 or 4 shields, he ran around until the enemy was out of arrows and then went for the kills...every battle was soo long

Warband has an inventory box by where you spawn, which you can use to refill arrows (or maybe you have to have new bags in your inventory. I know in the original Mount&Blade, if you accessed the supplies box your equipped arrow bags were refilled). I used to run a solo horse archer in the TLD mod. There is an elven bow you can use from horseback, and orc shields are super flimsy (usually break in a single hit with high archery and the right bow)...not to mention that a mearas could bonk orcs to death at full speed with 10 riding...

The bandits were faster because Strat kept slowing down and didn't realize it took time to accelerate while the bandits were moving full speed. Also the bandits had steppe horses, his canterion charger only had 5 speed more, which doesn't make much of a difference without high riding skill

Steppe Bandits actually aren't equipped with Sumpter Horses (the pack animals) they're equipped with Steppe Horses (67 manoeuvre, 45 speed) But you're right about them dropping the rubbish horses :)

I tried this and the problem I had was not being able to finish sieges because I couldn’t select people for the keep battle. I had to leave and give up all loot and xp whenever I got to that point

Yeah you have to approach sieges a bit differently - I tried to position myself towards the rear of their fief so I could pick people off as they retreated before they got to the keep (usually easier to do with arrows and an arrow barrel near by). We'll get to that part eventually :D

You also can't initiate sieges if you have no troops, so you have to join an ongoing one. You can then leave if the enemy fall back to the keep, as they'll only have a couple of dozen against usually several hundred on your side (unless the siege is a massacre for both sides), and let the AI autoresolve the assaults (not like you're going to be able to loot, anyways, as you didn't initiate the siege).

I played this style a lot in realm of thrones. If you wanna speed up things a little bit and make it more fun, get a crush through mod that allows multiple hits per spear stab. Xorberas Legacy I think it is called. Also the new versions of RoT include really heavy giant arrows that can impale multiple targets that are directly behind each other.

I can’t tell if you using this but it doesn’t look like you are. If you double tap the forward key while mounted your horse will accelerate a lot faster. Helps keep enemy cavalry off of you while shooting bows.

Very interesting, I'm eager to watch the campaign. BTW, why do you not use RBM mod and/or hide the terrible fat aiming "point", as in some earlier campaigns? Perhaps too difficult, especially on horseback? (I always play without the aim device, bows and crossbows are a real challenge, while javelins are fine)

Bro, I don’t know if you found out why bandits were so fast with horses....I have a vague idea. Bandits in high difficulties such as (veteran and challenger) instead of being more “intelligent” only have their perks multiplied. For example: the looters have 40 handling but with the difficulty Vet increases 1.5x and in the last difficulty increases 2x In other words, the difficulty does not exist, they only have more perks than it says, they caught you because they had more Riding Ps: this is just a guess 😅
