Outlying Wainwright Walk 5
WARNING - YOU WILL GET WET :D
This route begins at dry howe bridge, 1 mile down a single track road off the A6, just before a farm and through a gate where you will find parking for no more than 3/4 cars.
The route walks up through the farm yard and steeply up a good track before branching off a faint path towards Whiteside Pike.
From here the path is engraved in the form of flattened grass which leads you through conveniently placed stiles and gates over the remaining 8 fells round the valley to complete the 9.5 mile circuit.

Ey Marra, ey up Mr Hewitt. Proper walk that, love those type of walks, yomping through bogs and seeing no one, pity the weather only brightened up towards the end. Lamb Pasty has to be the best name for a hill ever! 🤣

I did the full round 11 years ago and i liked it. However the weather was good when i did it. I remember the boggy sections very well as well as the steep drop off The Forest! Great video which i really enjoyed. Brought back memories when i did it.

Dave, you have my sympathy and admiration in equal amounts. That looked very tough going, and bleak. The weather typically got better at the end. Loved the comments about the arsed-shaped rock. Well done on taking us round, not sure I'll ever do this circuit

Don't know how you remember them all never mind walk them all and a real moody days weather. Fair point about having a fall out there if you are on your todd, looks very desolate out there. Had to lol when you said "we are just following the path"....what path lol! I always assumed the outlying fells are all very small, so quite surprised at the height of some of them. "To the weather" - I think your camera summed up what we all thought of the weather lol but to be fair, it has been nice the last few days. That was a fight to get there, through the bogs and the driving rain but it has made my mind up, when I (eventually) finish the 214 Wainwrights - stuff the outlying fells, it looked miserable as sin! Apart from the bull in field sign, it looked not too bad on the way down with a bit of sun on the last one too, cheers Alan

Well if ya thought this looked bad the walk we did only yesterday is 3 times as bad and even in fine weather... A place called 'Wet Sleddale'.. now we should have had a clue in the title 'Wet' but no bloody kidding absolutely no paths.. Wainwright is taking the pi** selecting some of those fells and I do question whether he actually walked some of these.. to make things worse i had derek and mary from fat boys on tour with me and id say i just about killed em (i think they enjoyed it though haha) tek care lad thanks for commenting :)

Gotta love the Shap Fells, Dave - bogs & all. The solitude & wilderness are brilliant. I still have one more walk to do to complete them, starting at same place you did. Don’t write off the Howgills. There are some brilliant hills amongst them, and much quieter than the Lakes too. I think the scenery is similar to Back o’ Skiddaw. You should try them. Cautley Spout is amazing!

Turned into a really nice day eventually. Don't know these fells at all. Had many a day in weather you had in the first half but always enjoyed them and took a masochistic pleasure in overcoming the conditions. You think the same I think.
@daveostlemountainman

yea i don't mind walking in those conditions.. the problem of 'bogs' is often overexaggerated, just get stuck in and bring a spare pair of socks for after haha.. only negative is really when am filming a video especially a route like this where there are not many thorough guides on it id like people be able to see it in full.. cheers for watching, tek care :)
