I love Wing Chun and JKD :D It's what I switched to after a back injury forced me out of boxing and I started getting into training for self-defense, it's a very favorable martial art if you presume A) your opponent is stronger, faster, maybe younger and B) helping to build up speed, discipline and learning how to intercept strikes and overwhelm your opponent very quickly with just hand speed and finally C) if you can't afford to take the damage of going to the ground and/or are facing someone with superior grapple skills or who is too strong to risk grappling with. add in some stuff from boxing, muay thai, krav maga, pencak silat, keysi, kali, aikido, judo, etc. (whatever works best for YOU) but I think Wing Chun(g... :P) and basic boxing and JKD are great "staple-training" for holding together whatever mixed style you use for self-defense. I actually thing WC and JKD would be really good for UFC fighters that are primarily grapplers and need a better stand-up game, as much as it would benefit primarily strikers like, say, Chuck Liddell or Cung Lee.

Not 100% but I think it's Muay Thai
@TheBoxingCannabyte10 жыл бұрын
Victo No way lol...it's Wing Chun and probably some JKD. I have no idea how you got Muay Thai out of that (just because elbows and knees are used doesn't mean it's Muay Thai, knees and elbows are used in virtually every martial art at some point or another). I know because I've been a strike-martial artist my whole life, mainly in boxing and Silat (which my dad is a master of and also taught h2h in the Marines MA training facility after 'Nam), but after a severe injury which wouldn't lend itself to heavy-striking like Muay Thai or heavy groundwork like Judo, I decided to get into self-defensive martial arts, no rules, all about protecting yourself, that type of stuff. Anyway, taking Bruce Lee's "be like water philosophy" to heart I decided what worked best for ME is a stand-up mixed martial self-defense training, which is very similar to Kai's. Stand up and strike, avoid the ground, if on the ground go for holds that involve breaks and choking out and getting-out to get standing back up vs staying on the ground and turning it into an operating table of bone-breaking madness ala Royce Gracie or something :P And obviously I'm far from a Royce or Bruce Lee, far, far, far far away....so very far away...but I'd like to think I'd at least be considered advanced for the ACTORS involved, another few years in training for this and I could honestly say I'd be close to Kai's (the character) level of skill. The closest to Muay Thai I've seen is probably from Chayton, Carrie and Oleg, though Carrie and Oleg, I'm almost positive, were doing Pencak Silat which is somewhat similar to Krav Maga. Hood is very much a mixture of JKD, boxing, and probably an aggressive form of Karate like what Dolph Lundgren trains in, Kyrokushin, I think the name is.
