Funny, after some fiddeling i came up with (U)AC20+MRM40 aswell. For low alpha its just too big. Also the mobitly skills are very important and make it feel much better. I liked the comparison with a heavy Mech (the jäger). Overall a well founded explanation and makeover of the La Malinche. I like that you speak like a scientist would do. *hands over cookie*

I run an LBX20, MRM40 and 3 MPL on a STD325, leaving the right arm for shielding and the right ST as a 'dead' side at the cost of losing the MRM. It works rather well for me, especially since I've maxed armor and twist speed - and skilled for full radar deprivation. It helps a lot with keeping a lower profile, preserving your lower armor longer and allowing you to "hide in plain sight" around corners.

Did the lpl ac10 build to try and get some quirks. For the build you hsowcased, although it's probabloy more effective have the Kraken doing the same but better. Like you said the Atlas' quirks allow it to tip the spear whereas the banshee feels more like a clan mech in terms of armor. The Banshee hero is very subpar due to low survivability, poor weapon placements and few weapon mounts, and probably only comes out on ocasion either to look at the camo or to punish myself :D

i got this mech a few years ago i run an ac10 2 med pulse 2 large lasers xl380 it was decent back then but that build workrd for me. a big lrm isnt to bad now with line of site. this mech isnt much different then the siren meaning you can do all of the builds you showed

Yeah it's not that great, but it can work. I've been meaning to buy the LM myself for the underdog mech series but I didn't have to now. I ended up getting 3 of them on my accounts and sold one for CBills.

Usually I do between 450 - 750 of damage using 3 LPL's + LBX 10, it's not bad but it's almost the only build suitable for this mech. I might use the second Malinche for a MRM 40 and maybe 2 Heavy PPC's and see how it goes...

Atm I'm using mrm 40 and triple large pulse. The no quirks for the mrm does hurt the build. It's kinda lackluster as an Assult. Will probably try your build and see if it's more friendly.

Yeah, lemme know. Why not 4 lasers though? Also LBX20 forces you to use a STD engine so just be aware of that (less heatsinks in the engine among other drawbacks).

Hero mechs are for farming CBills(mostly), but this one is so bad that i can probably get more CBills on normal meta mech. I think AC20 is situational, and most times it will put you at disadvantage, medium range build is more universal.

Currently upper tier matches are split between mid and short range with a sprinkle of long range thrown in if you get Alpine or (new) Frozen assault. My CBill maker before was the regular laser vomit Hellbringer loyalty variant. Now I've switched it to an MPL boat since I can no longer use the range as much.

BlackhawkSC, I'd be interested to hear about your current thoughts on the Thanatos. I find I'm always changing my build with the 5S, as it's my only variant on that chassis, and I wonder if anyone has found something effective. For me, the most consistent build I've got is a dual LBX20, 2mlas, and 2 rocket launcher 10's. 1jj. For me it is a decent dual LB20 carrier, but....those side torsos, and it moves like an assault. What do you think? Worth pursuing or am I better off giving up on it?

The ECM is good for like 1 second of enemies not seeing you (unless they're looking at your direction already) so I think something like UACs is the best way to abuse that free damage time period.

Random question. Fairly new to the game . I have clan mechs have "omni pods" was wondering that if buy a clan mech. Can i buy the Omni pods in store for cbills or do i need to buy a particular variant yank off an arm or a leg and then sell it as i would have no need?

I avoid single UACs if the mech doesn't have a jam chance quirk. Sometimes I do single UAC builds for variety though.

Although the widespread AC's make it weird if you're not firing out in the open which is not a good place to be in such a slow mech. While the LPL+SRM one is quite neat - you can hill hump like a boss and up close this combo wrecks people just short of standard SRM brawl builds. I'd say it's pretty versitle. About XL's: even the 300 engine gives you 5 extra tonns which makes all the differences when trying to boat dual ballistics. KGC has its' in the arms and therefore XL's don't interfere with critical slots.

Can you make a video about tag, are they worth and so on ... i mean some mechs dont have a slot for it... is tag the reason a pilot shoud prefere other mechs ...

TAG is pretty simple: take one for ATM, Streak, and LRM boats, avoid them on other builds. Some people carry tag without being missile boats themselves, but I don't think it's worth it when you can't guarantee that someone else will take advantage of that tagging.

@@BlackhawkSC first: thx for the quick awsner. 2nd. i think you missunderstand my question... is the tag (we just ignore the fact that it can unstealth enemys and so on) worth to use it instead of using a mech which cant use one becouse of his slots. If my mech can use Tag is always use it, clear so far, but some chasis cant use it, play them anyway without a tag or reconfigure them so that they dont "need" it (SRM)?

What do you mean some chassis can't use it? Any chassis that has an energy hardpoint can use TAG so that means most mechs in the game can use TAG.

15 hrs on the event still. why are you talking like you already missed out ? its not hard to get 500 match score , just drop a 1000 damages on any assault 5x in 6 days and boom objective complete. and if you don't know how to drop 1000 damages than try dual ultra ac10 with dual ultra ac5.. works for both clan and I.S mechs F*** it, you can even fit this on some heavy mechs like the timberwolf.

Played a lot in the first four days of the event, only hit 500 twice. Stopped because it wasn't worth the stress of more cancer LRM boats and getting shot in the back by teammates foaming at the mouth to hit 500. Actually bought an MCII-b during the event, that build didn't work for me.

It would be a lot better for that LPL/Gauss or AC10 build though. The other Banshee hero (Siren) can do it but because it has dual ballistics on the LT you can do much better builds.

You actually can XL it but I didn't see the benefits of XL vs LFE on any build that can take XL. You go faster but a big LFE is already fast enough. The AC20 build for example can't use XL due to slots. I'd just go with LFE.

I had the lingering feeling that this was an "I'll play this bad mech, so you don't have to." vid. It's a great vid, but the mech is so bad! Assaults have enough issues without bad hardpoints and hitboxes in the current meta. Obviously, the new tech helps a lot, but the builds are few.

I was thinking the same until I came across the AC20/MRM build. It's viable and I think the agility will surprise you if you go with the skill tree I showed. Not good but not horrible either. Just don't get focused on (by not being the first to peek) and stay with your team.

Both reasonable. I don't like single UAC builds because if they jam at the wrong time you're f'd. However in some cases if there's not enough firepower on a build I'd use it, like the UAC10/LPL build I suggested here. 3xML/AC20/MRM40 has enough firepower to not have to use an ultra AC.

Getting A bonus to a worse setup doesn't make it a good setup. Triple LPL is ok but when it's only backed up by a standard AC10 it's a waste of a 95 tonner

The AC10 only gets a 5% CD quirk in addition to the 15% generic ballistic CD quirk. The ultra 10 will still put out more damage overall. The range quirk is not that useful since it already reaches further than the LPLs so your optimal range doesn't change. Plus range is only important if you poke and I explained in the video why poke doesn't work well on this mech. This is a good example of a common build mistake where players build toward quirks without understanding the playstyle and whether the quirks compensates for a mech's deficiencies. Sometimes it does, like with the DRG-5N. For La Malinche it doesn't do enough.

:( Which tier are you in? If you're in T4 or 5, there are lots of LRMs that you can shoot down with a triple AMS Nova with 6x ERMLs. If you shoot down 1000 missiles and do 500 damage you should get about 500 MS. In the upper tiers, dakka seems to work better.

I have a tier 4 smurf account and I see waaaay more LRMs there, that's why. They're not necessarily more skilled but there are definitely more LRMs in the lower tiers.

I had to alternate between my ANH-2A with 6xAC2 and 4XML & RFL-LK with 2xLB10 and 4xERSL to finish the event. I think their tendency to blow off components is what made them score higher than my other mechs.

If you're in T3 or higher try quad LBX or dakka. ANH-1X, ANH-2A or Sleipnir for quad LBX. Blood Asp for dakka.
