ATV's to me are like family and as the years go by and the parts get bolted on your in it to win it. I'm truly blessed to have these amazing machines. Honestly though it all started with the intention of simply having a backup machine. Ohio's riding season is 6 months at best. If I get out there 8 to 10 times a season I'm satisfied but I need to make every trip count. The trails just opened back up and looking forward to filming some more content this year. Jacob honest to god you hit the nail on the head about the YFZ450's seat - It SUCKs! I have no idea why they would of made it they way they did when they already had a great design with the Banshee seat. Instead of using the Banshee's spring loaded metal latching mechanism they opted to use the plastic molded into the seat pan as the latch. Its absolutely terrible... I wish there was an aftermarket product to fix this because I would buy it. Thank you for watching I really appreciate it! Best wishes.

Thankfully that was the extent of you injuries Abbottm72! I hope you healed up to 100% and are all the wiser from that experience. As much as I love the option to travel these paths in either direction its extremely dangerous. I'm glad you pointed that out because I didn't see that rider until the last second. I always prefer being the last rider no matter if its only two of us or twenty. I'm really not interested in a head on collision or equally being slammed from behind. I know I say it often but my worst fear is coming around a blind corner only to face a little kid on a 50. I know I can go much faster and especially on these trails. I've been riding them for 30 years but I'm to spooked because I've rolled up on lifeless bodies before. I have to force myself to not apply all the gas I really want. When either of these quads get up in the gears and in the power-band a panic stop is literally rolling the dice on the outcome. We should also mention to everyone that if your machine has lights then please turn them on. Every little bit helps out there and its that little bit that can make all the difference. Thank you so much for watching and the great comment.

@@350iroc9 the crash was in June on Father’s Day, was out with my son who was right behind me. Was out of work for 3 months. The wrist is better but still stiff and I have limited mobility but we are getting there. I’ve rode that area for years in it’s always been I. The back of my mind when riding that I could come around to another quad and unfortunately it happened but thankfully I wasn’t going very fast and had my helmet on. @@AbbottM72 So this is a good point. When I think about it though, I still would prefer bi-directional paths rather than directional even with the danger factor it presents. Another question that arises and specifically when entering the woods with beginner riders or young ones is what position do you put them in? Would you prefer them in front of you where you can watch them yet vulnerable to head on traffic or behind you where you can't see them and react quickly if needed. If you think about it there really is no good answer. If forced to choose though I would do it the way you did with the new/young rider behind me. It only took an instant to mess up your wrist and will certainly take a long time to heal but as you said you'll get there. Wishing you and your family all the best and as always thank you for the great comments.

My main ride is a Kawasaki KFX 450R, while my husband's is a 1996 Banshee. Love 'em both for different reasons (aside from kick vs electric start, ha!). Lucky that the Banshee doesn't seem to have issues with water : ). Also stalling it is practically impossible vs the Kawee.
@350iroc92 жыл бұрын
Hi MBF and thanks for watching! The KFX450R is in my top 3 favorites. I've had the pleasure to ride my good friends 08 KFX and have to say the motor output is extremely similar to my YFZ's. Some of the reviews tag that the KFX has twitchy steering but honestly I like it. The footprint is smaller to the current YFZ but that just makes it very confident and nimble in the woods in my experience. I think you really have a gem there and hope you keep it till the end of time. As for the Banshee's water issues I've since corrected it with new Keihin 28MM flat slide carbs. Its been a long time debate to why the motor would go into a cruise control condition until you bip the throttle a couple of times. As you can imagine it's not ideal and can become dangerous at times. Lastly I do wish that the YFZ had a kick starter but only as a backup in case the battery was to die. Lord knows your friends won't be your friends anymore if they have to push start you the rest of the day.. LOL.\\ Again thanks for watching !

@@350iroc9 Oh yes, I hit the jackpot w/the KFX. Still a YFZ's on my wish list, CF Moto too, can't have too many ATVs. Anyhoo, glad you got the water issue cleared...no pushing with either one I bet!

Great video, I love the format. I’ve read some of your comments and you mentioned that these quads need a lot of maintenance and that’s no joke lol. I bought a 2005 YFZ450 that was used as a high schoolers farm toy for my first quad a few days ago and I went to do an oil change and coolant flush and start goin through the thing. DO NOT BUY FARM TOY YFZs😂 Or at least have a good idea of what you’re getting into first. I’m just looking at it as a good way to get to know the quad and learn how to maintain it better going forward
@350iroc92 жыл бұрын
First thank you for watch and the comment and congratulations on your purchase! Its nice to hear that you are going through the entire machine first. I myself would never trust anything until I gave it the once over before flying down a path! 05 YFZ's are carburetor driven so I would pay attention to cleaning it out and secondly I would check the valve clearances due to its age. Third I would install some new axle bearings because they are inexpensive. When those go its never a good day. Fourth and if not already installed get a good case protector in the event the chain snaps. Small $ could possibly save you BIG $$ later. What color 05 did you purchase?
@whyisitneversummer52622 жыл бұрын
@@350iroc9 Of course! I enjoyed it. And thank you, I’ve wanted an atv since I was a kid but my dad was military and we could never afford one or didn’t have a place to ride. But I just got out of the Marines and moved home to Illinois and some of my family goes to Wisconsin to trail ride and I figured I’d join them. But yeah I’m the same way, I don’t want to be ten miles down the trail and have the thing fall apart or lock up on me. As for the carburetor that’s on the top of my list to look at as it drives fine but won’t idle for more than maybe 10-15 seconds without dying. I just ordered a service manual to follow so I can check the clearances and whatnot like you said (because although I’m mechanically inclined I don’t know jack about quads). Wheel bearing was also next on my list lol. The front right tire is worn much more than the left because there is some play in it so I ordered bearings and ball joints for both sides. The rear axle splines are worn down as well as the spacers behind the wheel and there was tons of play but I noticed the axle nuts were finger loose so I looked up the torque specs and tightened them and they seem ok for now so I’m putting that on the back burner until I set aside a little more $ for parts. As I was doing the oil change I discovered the oil was a little milky and after I finished and moved over to do the coolant flush I realized the radiator was bone dry, as was the reservoir. I pulled the drain plug on the bottom of the engine and the new oil was slowly leaking out! It doesn’t smoke when running or seem down on power or anything so I believe it’s the water pump seal. It also has a twist throttle on it that I’m not a fan of. It’s fine on a motorcycle because you lean to turn rather than turn the handle bars. Plus the throttle cable binds up when you turn full right. So I also have an oem throttle lever on order. Hopefully the thing will be up and running in the next week or so! Sorry for the lengthy comment😅 Mine is blue! Although I would’ve been pretty happy if I could’ve found a white one. But at least there’s no question what brand it is lol

@350iroc9 Жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan and thank you for the question as it is a good one. I have several friends that own the Raptor and by adding a simple exhaust, tuner and intake have made them great machines. I've rode them both and feel the Raptor is taller but narrower. The YFZ you feel like you sit in the bike and not on top of it. The additional width makes it feel more stable. As for comfort I don't see any issues with the YFZ as there is plenty of leg room and the seat is long. As for speed they are about the same. They are both very reliable and well made. I can say if you like to take your quad apart to clean and maintenance it the Raptor is more complex and will take more time. I know this is a hard decision but in reality I think the Raptor is probably the better buy because of its lower MSRP and over all cost of ownership. The real decision maker should ultimately be by riding each of them if at all possible. I think even just sitting on them both will help make your decision. I think this will help you without a doubt of where you belong. Thanks for watching and don't sweat over the decision too much as either one of these machines will make you smile!

I just got back from another ride weekend and took the Banshee out again for the third time in a row. I normally alternate but honestly if its not a mud bath I really do prefer the Banshee over the YFZ. It's absolutely amazing to me the attention it brings these days. In my opinion the Banshee needs to be wider using +2 +1 A-Arms with new front shocks. The rear shock is fine but will require an adjustable width axle to compliment the new front width. Only in the fall time when the leaves are down and you can see around the corners can I really open it up with confidence. In the summer its best to keep a level head and slow it down a bit because you literally will only have a split second to make a decision. With that said the other rider coming at you will have to make their decision so things can get complicated real quick!
