Yeah there's a big difference between the two of them. You Thoroughly broke those two radios down. Thank for sharing your findings brother.

You are welcome. I can definitely see why the Baofeng has such a following. It works and the price is low enough that the radio could be considered disposable and it still wouldn't be an economic faux pas. I have more testing in the works. Thanks for watching !

Very helpful, think I am going to get three of the BF for our bug out bags and some to have for Murs/fmrs ops around the property...

Thank you ! For the price I don't see how you can go wrong. I would look at some sort of antenna upgrade if I was using them. Im testing all the user variables in the next video (battery life, fixed range testing, etc.) Thanks for watching !

Great review of both radios. I get around the lack of the DC jack on the Baofeng with a converter for my cig lighter that I plug my standard charger into. I won't be giving away an Icom radio away. LOL Thanks for sharing.

Thank you ! I'm not giving away the icom either :) I actually picked it up for a really good price. The BF did come with the vehicle adapter and I can confirm it works well with the powerfilm F15-600. Thanks for watching !

Since you promised more testing, a comparison of the FT-60 (usually suggested as a quality buy option) to some other quality radio would be nice.

I would do it if I had one

Where is part 2?
@survivalcomms5 жыл бұрын
It got lost in editing unfortunately. The cliffs notes was that outside of the quality issues demonstrated here the real world performance was very close with the Icom squeaking out on top especially in regards to battery life. In short buy what you can afford and anmost any radio is better than no radio. I hope this helps and thanks for watching !

Baofeng doesn't have a way to skip channels manually which is a BIG deal to me because if a channel starts getting a lot of static signals and keeps stopping on that channel I need to skip it without having to go to a PC and do it.

Yes it does lack nuisance delete functionality which honestly I never thought to consider and thank you for bringing it up. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching !

This test lacks one criteria and that's field programming. You can program an Icom with a breeze while the Baofeng good luck with it. Good review by the way.

I agree the Baofeng and others do not come close to the ease of "classic" amateur portables in moving about covered spectrum in any way. I have one of the older Kenwoods (Th F6A) and it will even RX SSB. The only advantage the Baofeng has is its price point and I am afraid in today's market that has been enough to really limit the consumer's understanding of what makes a frequency flexible radio a frequency flexible radio. Thanks for watching !
@boggs20054 жыл бұрын
The quality of reception of the radio is also more important than anything else. What's with 10 watts TX power and cannot even hear a single response? Baofeng has its place, however, when it comes to any real operations wherein there are lots of RF interference, it cannot survived.

@@boggs2005 good point - I used to live in a metropolitan area and having poor selectivity was a huge issue.

GET RID OF THE CAR CHARGER! THAT WILL MELT THE CHARGING CRADLE AND KILL THE RADIO!

Thank you very much I appreciate the support and the heads up. Spoiler alert - The BF charger overall is very crude compared to the ICOM but sounds like from your observation its no spoiler to you :) Thanks again !

SurvivalComms no problem! My friend had one and pugged it in and 20 min down the road it was smoking in his truck. It's garbage. The radio is solid and good but the charger sucks. I will be trying to do a video review on my vertex VX150 soon. The charger plugs right into the side of the radio. But over love the chan and love to see the vids coming out. Really loved the build your own communications plan series.
