I just watched ur vid to see how ya done it,turns out theres actual rpi programs to do it but the way you did it u can get a DRA818V module which is 2M and theres also a 70cm version aswell

[Putting on my EE hat] It sounds fine; you don't need the isolation transformer. However, if you use a cheap buck converter (car USB charger) to power the Pi, you might. Use a short bit of shielded cable for the audio from the Pi. Replace the pot with fixed resistors. Attach a short piece (a few cm) of bare wire to the shield. Heat shrink the splice and resistors, bringing out the shield wire. Wrap the splice with a few layers of foil (or coax shield, if you have some), with the shield wire between layers, and then heat shrink over that. In extreme cases of RFI, you may need to put the Pi in its own metal case. If you put everything (except the antenna, of course) inside of a steel ammo can, you may find that you don't get the RFI when running 2m. Ammo cans are great for foxes, since they are quite weatherproof.

I'm lucky to have any pi's , i had a few I gave away and wished I still have. Scoring one now is like buying 5 of those Baofengs.

Do you have a circuit diagram showing the connections to PTT?

I have a thumb-sized MP3 player with a single mp3 file playing in a loop, and plugged into a vox enabled UV-5R. The mp3 file was edited in Audacity to add in bits of silence to extend the periods between transmitting. I've also considered an old Android phone to be able to control it remotely.
@HamRadioDX2 жыл бұрын
I did try that, but I found the VOX was a bit unreliable. Perhaps different MP3 players have a bit better audio driver to trigger it

@@HamRadioDX yeah you're probably right, it's an old Dick Smith one from when they still had brick and mortar stores here, with built-in rechargeable battery. Also had success with it on a BF-888S on 70cms.

this is awesome! I've got an og pi that would hopefully run great for something like this!

Yeah give it a go! I'm in the process of putting it in a case for outdoors now, so once that has been built I will do another video.

Find the chipmonk!🐿😄 I would leave the the worthless Baofeng but take the $500 Raspberry Pi. lol Cool to see the mods and programming. A double zip sealed plastic bagshould do the trick.👍

@@HamRadioDX Fair enough. I don't want to change products mid-stream. Did you ever compile a script for the Pi? And if so, is that available. Thanks again for the inspiration!
@HamRadioDX2 жыл бұрын
@@phurla1 No I didn't. I was using an old script and the Pi has been repurposed along with the SD card. Although at 4:18 you can copy what you can see on the screen - sorry

Pi 3, so it doesn't have the WiFi onboard, but could plug in a small dongle
