Ami I feel is the personification of what some of these owners expect from Jon and his staff. He wanted them to do the work for him, not learn the mistakes. They won't be there forever so as soon as they leave, the owner and bar go back to the way they were and the owner blames Jon and team for failing them. It's insane the entitlement that Ami and some of these other owners felt to think they know better. If they did, they wouldn't be FAILING!
@DisDatK9
@DisDatK9 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, just complete disregard for any responsibility. Then they apply for the show because they think it’ll just be them coming in to renovate their bar and make a cocktail menu. When it all falls apart they can’t take personal responsibility because they ignored all of the problems, and now getting called out on it they just think it’s the pros fucking it up. All that he could come up with was a cheap insult. He deserves to fail, it’s just a shame he has to fuck over everyone under him in the process.
@DavidJameson89
@DavidJameson89 Жыл бұрын
That’s what I get the feeling about too. A majority of them argue with Jon even though they called him to come help them. They just want Jon to bail them out without them having to take responsibility, and he isn’t gonna do that because it costs a lot of money for the remodels he does and he doesn’t want to do it if the bar will just end up in the same situation later on.
@marcpower4167
@marcpower4167 Жыл бұрын
That was clearly the case with Extremes Sports bar. Jon calls him out for not having any cleaning products to which the owner says "you should go get some." Despite the poor attitude Jon turned the place around, 2 years later he went back for a "re-rescue" and what a shock....same attitude only worse. So Jon asked him to chip in $30,000 (just to prove his commitment)on the renovation and he claimed he didn't have the money even though he opened a 2nd location and bragged about it 🙄. He clearly just wanted a hand out so Jon walked out.

Believe it or not, Ami finally admitted defeat to Taffer with his own wrongdoings and at the end of the rescue, he said, and I quote directly: "God Bless Jon Taffer." The bar resorted back to the old name Zanzibar, but the changes Jon added are still in place and the reviews from customers are positive compared to before.

Crazy enough, he’s one of the few that Jon claimed was one of his favorite owners to work with after he turned a new leaf. Ami came to a Back to the Bar and Jon raved like crazy about how much he respected him and his character as an owner. But it took Jon slapping him around a little to get him to shape up.

Just imagine if Brian Duffy was on Kitchen Nightmares Season 6 Episode 16 almost 10 years ago with Gordon Ramsay at Amy's Baking Company. He'd be far angrier with Sam & Amy than any of the Bar Chefs in this video. When Jon loses his cool it sounds similar to my aunt and the Flying Dutchman from SpongeBob combined.

A lot of bartenders, I’ve met that overpour do it because they think it’ll get them more tips for giving out stronger drinks, not my words their words. Even in bar rescue, they say something about how it gets them higher tips in a few different episodes when asked. What they failed to understand is constantly having profit loss by over pouring and losing the charge of two other drinks by putting them in one drink you’re actually affecting the bottom line of the bar and your job security.

Mystery Diners was probably the best show I've seen. They are the people owners hire when they know there is a problem and aren't quite sure what it is (or who is causing the problems). The premise of the show is the host sends in mystery diners to scout out what's happening (see Bar Rescue)... or he sends in a person as a new hire to see how things are like when the owners/managers aren't around. In one Episode, there was a hotel owner concerned with theft. He is a musician by hobby (won a few national awards), but he wanted a constant money maker so he bought a hotel. Every night he and his friends played music for an hour or so. Anyone who has a room key is given a drink on the house. He has noticed that more drinks were being drunk than there were hotel guests and blank room keys were missing. So, he hired the people to come in and figure out what was happening. He honestly thought the thief was the manager who had access to the keys. Turns out, some of his bell boys were stealing food (they ordered food from the kitchen for a room that wasn't occupied, so that charge never shows up on anyone's bill), stealing room cards, then asking people to give them 10-15 dollars per card as the price of admission to see the musician perform. Yeah.. the owner was happy to learn his manager wasn't the problem... he did publicly humiliate the thieves by having them go on stage with him after he performed a few songs and fired them. After the show he sat down with his manager and together they created some new systems to make it a bit harder for people to get blank room keys. In another, a bar owner was concerned. Her staff were not happy. A lot of the tips were being stolen and she saw a large increase in "breakage". She has two bartenders who are there to perform tricks. As they are human, they sometimes make mistakes and a bottle breaks; hence "breakage". She accepts that they will break a bottle or two a week... but the crowds they draw, in her opinion, are worth a bit of losses. However, they were breaking upwards of 10 bottles a week... and she wants to know wtf is happening. They send in a new hire... and things weren't good. The newly installed cameras caught a single employee stealing tips from the men at the counter, then that employee went around to the back to pour out a bottle of wine down a drain... smashing the bottle than placed the smashed bottle in a bag, to be placed with the rest of the "breakage". The owner brought the thief and the men to her office... where all the thief's actions were shown to them. The two men came clean... then apologized to the other for thinking that the other was stealing tips from them. After the show, the owner created a tip share, so that all waitresses/bartenders would get the equal amount of tips... as the two men were getting close to 20% of all tips... which did piss off the others. The thief was the only one who acted on the anger by trying to get the men fired. There were several more memorable episodes... some were at bars, some at restaurants... one was at an art show, lol. That art show episode... oh boy. The organizer of the art show thought it was the caterer overcharging and under delivering... nope, he was in the clear and that was the least of her worries that she didn't know she had! There was one episode... you remember the face people have when they are fired when they thought they wouldn't be fired? Well... the manager was very shocked... and she had to confirm with the owner, who chewed her ass out for her behaviour, that she _wasn't_ fired. This was just after he told his own _son_ that he was fired, rofl. "Just to be clear... I'm not fired?" There were many more episodes that I remember well... some of which should be on Bar Rescue/Kitchen Nightmares for their drama, lol. If you ever find that show, enjoy.
