@@void6091 Yeah, I was watching some 3rd Strike tournament footage that JWong was hosting on his channel and a Urien player who won the whole tournament did way better against an Akuma player. And the parry system in this game can mitigate disadvantage in matchups between characters who aren't far from each other on the tier list. Gootecks just isn't as good as he should be considering that 3rd Strike is supposed to be his best fighting game. It makes me remember all those times that Gootecks complained about SF4 not rewarding smart play. Yet he puts on this performance in a game that he would say does. Maybe it wasn't the game. Maybe it's Gootecks who just wasn't that good. He never had success with any version of SF4 Rose and yet Luffy won EVO 2014 with her.

@@void6091 Cool story. But in this game Gootecks/Urien was obviously struggling. After a while the crwod will go into salvage mode and cheer on the underdog. So not recognizing that and being rigidly fixed on some predetermined tier hierarchy, is just choosing to not recognize what's happening.

Mmhm. Discount everything the other player did in order to make the guy you like look good. Pretty sur JR doesnt need your help with that here, Gootecks got bodied, but he capitalized on JR's mistakes that game, specifically out-poking him the second round. Try to be objective.
@Tips4Tat9 жыл бұрын
+Dr. Fun First of all I like both. A simple look at the video shows a dramatic difference between what JR did in those rounds from the way he played in those where the victories were free (including the round just after) Secondly, so many elements of your comment make no sense. JR doesn't need my help with what: even figuratively? I said he lost on purpose which is more than clear; Gootecks, as said, hadn't played in forever whereas JR has played SF3 consistently. Outpoking him? Spamming out of character clps, when it was clearly established that Gootecks had no answer for Tatsu is outpoking? Do you watch SF3 matches? You should probably take your own advice. Not sure if you're delusional, ignorantly stubborn, or just a troll.
@Doc_Fun9 жыл бұрын
First, just gonna point out that your narrative flow is so poorly connected it seems as though you have some pretty severe aspergers.connect your sentiments, I beg you, it's agony to read. As to your response - I said he doesn't need your help looking good, and please, stop trying to maintain neutrality, because it's just farcical at this point. Gootecks and JR had played about a month or so before this, and not only was it fairly even but it might've actually been in Gootecks' favor. JR played better here, it does not make him so much better than he would feel the need to "let" him win. In their games online Gootecks would often parry the tatsu and then immediately backthrow for corner position, so I'm assuming (and this is a big assumption considering he tatsu'd about 3-4 times in that short second round) that he was testing out a less tatsu-heavy gameplan so Gootecks couldn't easily adapt. Hood playrrs often use rounds in a ft10 for data, but it doesn't mean they're not actively trying to win. And in the first round of 18;00, he got bopped, he got mixed up and died quickly and legitimately. But this is all assuming anything you said is even true, which I'm calling absolute bullshit on. I'm honestly curious what JR himself would say to that accusation, fairly certain he'd be offended at the very idea. Might go ask him.

Coming back to this video a few years later, I still love JR's play this whole match. Gootecks only gets like four mixups in the whole FT10. That is crazy good defense, and he's doing that at the same time as he's doing this insane rushdown. Urien spent like 25% of the game pushed into the corner. Beautiful Third Strike. To contrast, I really dislike Gootecks's play here. He gets great damage off of most of his punishes... but not enough to kill. His plan was to make up that gap by punishing the tatsus with red parries, but he never got one. The difference of the thousands of hours of experience here is palpable. That's all okay though. If your plan doesn't work, you get a new plan. The turning point was when the score became 5-0. At this point it is clear Gootecks's gameplan was a failure. His options are to change something up or lose. Gootecks chose to lose. JR had proven that Gootecks couldn't defeat his offense. Gootecks should have tested his defense. Rushdown his rushdown! Kill him before he tatsu's you! He's Akuma! He's made out wet paper towels! You'll get one round out of the surprise alone! No. He just sits there in the corner, getting bodied. The coach's suggestions of Tyrant Slaughter or Chun, while questionable, are way better than just dying with dignity like Gootecks did. If you change something up, you gain ground psychologically. By game 7, Gootecks was totally mindfucked. He gets a knockdown, what's his meaty play? BACK UP LIGHT PUNCH. WTF!? Who does that!? If you ever catch yourself playing like this, take your water bottle and dump it on your head. Rip off your T-shirt. Anything to get your confidence back. You can't win if you've already lost in your mind. Lastly, this set is a great example of good and bad coaching. Wong and the other guy have maybe one decent piece of advice between them this whole set. They said it so loud JR heard it too. Meanwhile, JR's man is so subtle I didn't even realize he had a coach until my fourth viewing. Take notes, people. Gootecks didn't have a cold, 10-1s don't happen on accident. Practice. THINK. Do the last thing your opponent suspects! Most importantly, choose to win!

Using a tactic your opponent has difficulty with is perfectly respectful. It's saying, "If I don't exploit a known weakness, I'm unsure I'll win." Disrespect is styling and "playing with your food."

JR just was in Goo's head the whole time, constantly keeping him on his toes with the unending rushdown. Very nice match

Jude N if you play sf4 a lot, you get worse at 3, so i cant say i really blame him there.

I don't think it was possible for me to channel all of my prayers to you in that match any more than I did. But once again, the higher powers ignore me. I still love you gootecks

Yeah, I'im pretty sure watching the video again that he didn't know. It's all good though, it'll make him better. Aegis reflector is very very flexible. I once saw in NorCal wayy back in the day one of my NorCal peeps pick shoryureppa because of the invincibility frames (Paul Kim?); the thought was to blow through the unblockable. It worked once. I forgot who was visiting, but all he did was blink once, then the second setup he spaced the unblockable so he couldn't super through it.

Urien loses to Gouki easy if you know how to effectively use the characters. The tatsu is good against Urien but thats why you have the parry system.

It's funny how the audience cheer every parry and every lucky winner gootecks gets. But for every amazing combo from Jr, all he gets is a yawn.

red parry is where you pretty force a parry during a block string. Like lets say akuma's hk. tatsu hits 4 times on block, if you were to normal parry, you would have to parry the initial first hit, then second/third/fourth, then push with c.hp or whatever you want. BUT if you know how to red parry, you are able to block the first 3 hits, then press forward at the right time on the 4th hit, that will cause a 'red' parry and you can punish afterwards.

Also, I think Justin actually makes a really good commentator. He reminds me a lot of the commentators here on the UK scene, they aren't people nutting over the fight like a fan would do, they really know the game, they really know their shit, and they read it brilliantly and correctly. Just like Justin is doing here. The UK scene ain't up to much in terms of the quality of the players, let's keep it real, but we have the best commentary on the streams going lol
