zeff eating his own leg is how it happens in the manga if i'm not mistaken, the anime is quite censored so they changed it, lots of gruesome things that happen in the manga gets changed in the anime.

Nami reading about Noland the Liar to Zoro is one of the most beautiful scenes that will not get the limelight. That is stll my favorite One Piece backstory to this day.

I'm not fully caught up but I'm further in than you are, and because of where I'm at, seeing Garp and Koby's roles expanded and elaborated on like this adaptation has done is something that feels really necessary, and the way it is executed here feels really flipping good to me. This adds some much needed texture to the marines, and starts bringing the themes they represent into the forefront much earlier on. It makes the marines feel more like a constant presence, and one that's very complex and integral to understanding why the world of One Piece is the way it is.

I like how they are handling the Garp and Coby dynamic. Coby is acting like a foil to Luffy. Garp is taking Coby under his wing like how he wished Luffy would have joined the marines.

Koby has actually a pretty important role in the anime in the latest chapters and I think the live action is also trying to show the growth of Koby so the non-anime watchers will not be confused if he suddenly appear in the future with these power and strength etc

I don't know if you remember this from the manga but Arlong weaponized water on a few occasions. Jimbei does it even more often. So Arlong's splash throwing Luffy is more accurate that it might initially seem.

Coby and Helmeppo are also used to "dump info" on the audience without using the MCs for everything. But is good. I know there isn't that much budget for the fx because the mayority went to the props. The ships, locations, clothes, make up and prosthetics(all the fismen)... Everything looks fantastic and compared to that, there's not that much fx for luffy and I'm ok with that... But for the second season onward, the world become much more wild, so I think they would have to have more budget.

I think they need to give the luffy actor more high impact martial fighting (non cgi) and only use stretchy moves for a big finisher or combo finishers. I can tell theyre sorta trying to avoid having to spam too much cg for him which i get. In my mind i can see it being possible but its a very strict balance to make it look good

yeah thats a good idea, the current limitations make him seem much weaker than he is. like he needs to stop looking like he hurts every time he gets knocked down, spend that time doing what you said instead. hes a rubber man!

Think fans have to remember that when they started this production of the live action they don't know if it will be successful. As we know of other failed adaptations it's still a huge gamble. All the changes & liberties they have taken. The speed running of events is all due to the thinking that they will only have this one season. It's why they mention or tease things that are from arcs far in the manga/anime. Remember all these changes had to be approved by Oda-san. The live action doesn't need to be a 1 to 1 with the anime, we have the anime already. Let the live action be its own thing cause despite the changes it still has hit all the major story beats being different yet it still feels familiar.

I believe that luffy getting splashed is the way they show “Water shot”, fishman technique where flung water has the damaging capacity of a point blank shotgun blast, but usually it’s a single drop flung from their hand and not water splashed from pre-existing water sources.

This was the only character where the changes for me were not so very different but it gave me some of the same Baratie feeling even with the changes and loved Sanjis introduction honestly 💯🔥

Im not even ashaned in admitting it. I think the live action version of sanji's farewell is the best version. The choice of words, the choking in his boice, the music swelling during it. I didnt expect them to turn this moment to one that impacted me more than zoros oath after mihawk or nami asking for help. But my god, they got me.

Not spoilers: One thing about mihawk and garp that it's a mistake: warlords response when the world government says that they need them, not the marines. Spoilers now You can see this clearly in sabaody with kuma and kizaru, where kuma said that warlords doesn't act in behalf of the marines but world government (the warlords during marineFord where summoned not because of sengoku, but because of ace is a threat for the world and even the world government wanted to get rid of him for being pirate king's son)

Coby is a main character if you're looking on the side of the Marines. You don't like Coby having screen time in the LIVE ACTION, because you have not seen what Coby had become in the manga.😂😂 Coby is transforming to become a "New Garp". Coby is replacing Garp right now.

Child Sanji being chubby after 80 days without food is still wild to me. I understand they cant starve a child for a better experience but still. He looked like he had a week or 2 in him

That's what I was thinking, but they didn't need to starve him to make him look thinner. Makeup does wonders- proper contouring can give anyone well defined cheekbones. Give him dark bags under his eyes to make them look sunken in. Give him bigger clothes in every shot to make it _look_ like he was losing weight (the way they slowly began giving Coby better fitting clothes to show _his_ growth). That's the one thing that took me out of that flashback- Sanji should have looked just as dirty and ragged as Zeff.

Personally, if you thought that Luffy’s fight against Arlong was bad, I would say that my opinion is that Luffy was pulling his punches so he didn’t break the restaurant. Notice that his fighting improved once he is outside the restaurant.

Not in the original anime (I don't know if they remade those early episodes)- in the original anime, Zeff's leg got caught in debris and he used an anchor's chain to cut it off.

I feel like fight scenes are not the strong suit even in anime for early One Piece. The backstories and characters are what matters the most and they are nailing it. At least they did Zoro's and Sanjo's fighting justice.
