I remember buying the original recording of "Evita" so that I could have the tracks recorded by Mike Smith & Mike d'Abo (e.g., Rainbow Tour) but then I found this song on the double lp and such a fantastic performance. A fan ever since. I rank this powerful performance right up there with Christine Ebersole's "Single Bars and Single Women" on SNL--hurt, pain, defiance and strength.

When she released this I was fifteen and sang this unaccompanied in my drama group's annual production, so it was lovely hearing the version that inspired me to do this song. She was singing LIVE on Top of The Pops. You know it is live and not pre recorded because the lyric for the second half of the midle verse should be 'But every time it matters all my words desert me , So anyone can hurt me and they do' and she sings a mix of the 2nd half of the 1st verse and the 2nd half of the first verse.

Disagree; B. Dickson got the wrong lyrics to the second verse (@ 1:12 min - she caught her mistake at 1:19 - see her eyes! Ooops!) She used part of the 3rd verse so she had to repeat it at 2:05. Try the original Broadway cast version...(starts at around 1:37 min; kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4TOenyIaLt7iLc ; the clarity, intonation, and pronunciation of the original is superb. And reaching notes? Compare the clarity of each note. B Dickson has an excellent, strong voice though; needs to pay attention to the lyrics. Jane Ohringer nails her version.
