My uncle's best friend worked on the set of "I Dream Of Jeanie". He said that Barbra Eden was a perfect lady. Never nasty, never lost her temper, and always respected the crew. What an all-round beautiful woman she is.

Barbara Eden was always one of my favorite people to watch when I was growing up she is the epitome of a classy woman The Way She carries herself second to none ,and should never be subject to a question like ,that my mother had to bury her son and my brother, that's something that you don't touch in someone's heart, the many years you never stop grieving it ,God bless you Miss Eden thank you for all you've given us, your energy on TV, and the way you carried yourself ,will always be remembered, again thank you from the bottom of my heart ,I remember in the sixties watching you ,and you look exactly the same to me now as you did then,..God Bless

Barbara did a good job at holding her own during this interview. Connie was very cold about the whole thing. I definitely think the question "Will your life ever be the same?" was ignorant and insensitive. It's so sad what happened to Barbara's son, it sounds like she did everything she could to help him..

This was quite distressing to view, particularly for such a beloved television icon and one who has a reputation for being one of the nicest people in the entertainment industry. The difficulty in watching this was exacerbated by the interviewer, who could have had a little more tact and tried showing genuine compassion, but that's another point. It's a shame that in this situation, Barbara Eden is but one more parent/relative out there who has suffered from the addition and loss of a loved one to drugs. The substance abuse epidemic today is part of a wider set of social ills that need to be addressed with a hands-on approach, greater community/cultural cohesiveness, and just anything that will help on an individual or family basis. Thanks for sharing this piece that makes one really have a think.

I know what she went through, because I put my family through the same! Just know Mrs. Eden, it was the drugs, not your son, who did those things! Your story is saving lives! Some have to die, so others can live! Thank you Matthew for being a lesson that saves lives!

My only child, age 17 commited suicide almost 30 years ago because of addictive behavior...even though planning a life with a fiance' with aspirations, dreams, and hopes.. With an interview, the key to getting insightful, thoughtful, & honest answers come from the questions that are asked. There’s a very similar interview that Ms. Eden did with Charlie Gibson, and many thought his approach was also blunt & insensitive. But I believe Ms. Eden wanted the opportunity to deliver the strong & powerful messages that she gave in this interview to parents everywhere who think their kids would never do any drugs. But trouble always has a way of touching our lives, no matter who we are & where we come from. The anti- drug PSAs on TV are a joke and no one takes them seriously. But her message speaks a very real truth. She’s a beautiful class act...inside and out.

Those questions--asking her if she was neglectful of her dead son--were not necessary. Tough questioning makes sense if it's a political office holder, a criminal, or it's about some public scandal. But BE's relationship with her son is BE's personal life and there was no need to be so aggressive.

Her efforts to save teenagers' lives from the drug's addiction is an act from God. Despite she cries remembering how her unique son Matthew died, she advertises and encourages parents of drugs addicters. God bless you in your mission, dear Barbara Eden!

Seems we all have a tendency to just love Barbara, as her TV role, Genie. I never really knew she struggled with so many real life issues. That is very hard for us, as fans of the famous, to see them in any other way. We always want to think of them as happy and fine. But they struggle with things like the rest of us so often do. She lost her son, and there is no worse pain than that. Connie seemed a little harsh to me, in this interview. Connie is not exactly known for her tact. She was a little hard on Barbara, considering the delicate subject of losing her son. For God's sake, give the woman a break. She lost her son, and there is no coming back from that. Connie was distasteful in this interview, as I have often found her in many of her interviews. She just wants to be seen as a hard core interviewer, getting the "tough" answers. But in some cases, a little grace and tact would be in order. This was one of them. Sympathies to Barbara, and no respect for Connie. It's a wonder she is even still allowed to interview anyone. She offends more than she gives to anyone.

Connie Chung was just down right rude and unprofessional asking Barbara if she was neglectful!!! Really Chung!!!!

I disagree. As an interviewer, don't be afraid to ask the hard questions. Otherwise the interview is hardly more than fluff. Good thing we still have Howard Stern who will always ask about the elephant in the room that everyone pretends not to see.

In the middle 80's I was driving a cab in Chicago after the company I was a salesman for folded. I picked up 3 guys who told me they were Federal Bank examiners and did I know where Blue Island and Ashland was. They told me they were going to this old bank that had been there for many years. Then they asked me if I knew who Barbara Eden was and I said of course I did, everyone knew who she was. They told me that she was the principal owner of this bank. Well, she lived in Chicago those days and I suppose it was possible. Besides, why would they say that if it wasn't true? She was very smart and to this day I believe it.
