Funny how almost 40 years later Miss Jordan's words are still very relevant.

“I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.” - President Barack Obama, from his acceptance speech in the early morning of November 7th, 2012.

She was an amazing person. And she speaks to not just a party or state but a nation. She was also from Texas, which sort of makes up for "W" and Perry. Just saying we have both ends of the spectrum.

Our government also has fostered a "it's mine and I deserve it" mentality. Now, I don't believe for a second that Barbara Jordan would agree, nor any other Democrat would agree. But it is just my own personal observation.

she's such a awesome political person to look up to. I never knew about her till now, and let me say if she was running for president, she would have already had my vote before they even chose her to be one. lol

Great speaker, totally awesome. So sad that seemly no one in public office can speak like this. I remember her, and thought at the time she was a remarkable woman. We need a Barbara Jordon in today's world, an highly intelligent person, an excellent speaker; who should have been, at least, vice president under Carter. Instead we have total air-heads like Palin & Bachmann, IQs of a piece of furniture, who don't history from a hole in the ground and can't speak better than a 5th grader.

What a beautiful person. I really enjoyed what I heard in her speech. As a Republican, though, I must address her statement, "What is it about the Democratic Party that makes it the instrument the people use when they search for ways to shape their future? Well, I believe the answer...is in our concept of governing. Our concept of governing is derived from our view of people... etc..." I agree. The Democratic Ideal is based upon government being the answer to solving our problems.

Of government handing out to people, instead of making people seek work. Government should never be what people turn to for assistance. If the Church were to act as it should, and if our charity organizations were fully funded by a generous population and properly managed, the government could be about the business as laid out in the constitution. But no. The Democratic Party, as well as Republicans, have created a governmental society which promotes entitlements.

At least she didnt get up and start shootign off a bunch of race crap that you hear today. Anytime nowadays that you have a black politician speaker you immediatly knwo its about race i hate race i dont mind blacks or whites but there is no mroe racist in america PERIOD! Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.

I don't think you heard her in the beginning. To think racism doesn't exist shows racism is all around you. Perhaps it's you. The sad thing about racism is being racist and not even know it. When, we turn a blind eye to racism it only brings destruction to civilization.
